IHSH-454-BRN - 11oz Military Serge Western Shirt - Brown
Cut from 11oz Japanese serge, this is a tough, heavyweight version of our traditional western shirt that leans into the military associations of the fabric. Defined by a sturdy, ridged twill weave, serge fabrics are renowned for their strength and durability, and are commonly found in historical military uniforms and apparel. While developing this particular serge, Shinichi Haraki found inspiration in a cloth used for the classic French military M-47 cargo pants from the 1950s — a high-density cotton serge that is both hefty and rugged, while still offering comfort and breathability for everyday wear.
Bearing all the hallmarks of our western cut, this shirt features traditional western-style yokes and heavy-duty snap fastenings. Seen here in brown with tonal stitching, and finished with contrasting pearl snaps and internal yellow bobbin thread for a subtle splash of colour.

Looks like a nice fabric. How do people feel about a lot more of the pieces leaning toward reactive dyes in both FW26 and FW25? Here in the forum and in the heritage world generally there is a lot of value placed on how a fabric fades and ages. It can definitely be nice to have a piece that stays sharp, but sulphur dyes (or their environmentally more sustainable alternatives) age beautifully too and I've decided against a few pieces due to the reactive dying choice. There is room for both and I think for UHFs it's generally a good thing.
-
@phoenixinflight I enjoy having both in my wardrobe. It's nice to just wear a piece and not think about breaking it in.
-
@phoenixinflight i would love to know the details behind what people think about this. I've always thought the amount of people (not just the ones on this forum) into the whole fade thing is a minority of the sheer volume of folks buying "this type" (big range) of clothes..
But it seems like heresy to not be into it all.
I like my clothes to look like they did when i saw the pics that made me want to buy them. Within reason anyway.
I don't mind the fades and all that but it is of zero consequence to me really.
Actually I see pics some people put up of ancient looking stuff and I'd probably not want to wear it if it was mine.
I think the amount of people wearing "work wear" to actually do solid graft is much diminished, I only wear this stuff when I actually am trying to look sharp going out and about lol. Just being honest....Each to their own I guess, but your point about a change to more fade resistant stuff right off the bat is also a valid avenue to ask about.
Slightly different angle....But for me, it's a good thing.
-
@Stringthing75 I'd have to agree with at least 90% of that, fades don't bother me but at a certain point I can't wear them to work anymore and for me that's 70% of their use.
-
@Stringthing75 Completely understandable perspective and I appreciate your honesty. There is a vocal fade culture on the internet that circles around the heritage world. For me it just depends on the fabric and the intended stylisation. Some fabrics really become elevated through their evolution of fading. That said, I agree with you regarding some heavily worn pieces - including jeans. It's a good excuse to own a variety of garments (within reason) and rotate to extend their life and make aging more subtle, slow and (arguably) graceful.
It makes sense that these expensive garments would be reserved in a lot of people's wardrobes as 'nice' clothes for certain occasions or work etc and it depends on what you do for work I guess. I have come to let go of that distinction getting more into the heritage world and just wear them all whenever I can, whether that be for more workwear purposes or otherwise.

Dig this one. Think it would look great with some copper snaps as well.

@AdamJ Sizechart?
-
@Luke_is_back the IHUK crew are working on it, but as a number of items are releasing in the next week and need to be measured, it could be a few days before they can get the chart together.
This is currently what they are working through:

ARE YOU READY!?

@Stringthing75 I feel understood
I have a couple pieces I'm trying to make mine, but most of my items still look newish. I did the Indigo Invitational twice when I realized I was just using it as a reason to buy more jeans
