My 555 UHR arrived today and I’m super stoked! Shout out to @Graham for assisting me along the way.

I went with a tag 32 based on the measurements, but after 13 years of being a bike messenger with 6 of those spent racing professionally I’ve got these thicc thighs and often times it makes sizing difficult.

Pre soak, everything feels great but the thighs are about as snug as I can do. Given your collective experience, will the thighs return to current state after a soak, wash, and breaking in? If so, it’s totally workable.

That said it’s entirely possible the 555 isn’t the right cut for me. The 666 UHR in the closest waist size looks like it has a slimmer thigh so it seems like that might be out of the running for me. Would a 777 be a better choice? 888? I ask about those because I think in general I prefer the taper, however I may just require a classic straight leg for my build in which case a 634 may be in order.

Any and all input and criticism is welcome. Thanks in advance!

@indigo_nico 888 is the money cut for thick thighs…and just overall rad AF in my opinion.

I can’t say for sure because I’ve never had any UHR…but the thigh stretching back out is probably not going to happen unless they are under lots of pressure. Waist will because all the force placed in that area.

But maybe the UHR responds a bit differently…but by general rule of thumb the thigh is not gonna stretch much…and any stretch you get would be rather uncomfortable to gain.

@Mizmazzle yeah looking at the measurements, the thigh looks like it would be a better fit in the 888. perhaps that will be the move. looks like everyone is out of the UHR in that, so might have to go with XHS… which is actually what i was on the hunt for in the first place haha.

FWIW, this is the fit. as I mentioned, it feels pretty good everywhere but the thigh is quite snug. bigger in the waist would be too big I feel.

@indigo_nico you’re in luck! The 888 UHR is restocking next week it looks like. Check out that thread. The guys from IHUK just posted that.

XHS is the shit. My fave denim for sure. But uHR will be my next jeans because I’ve heard great things. But XHS is king in my book!!

@indigo_nico The picture isn’t great for judging the fit, but it looks pretty good with a little room in the thighs.

You might be good as the waist will stretch and the length and calves look right.

How does it feel when you sit down? Uncomfortable in the thighs? That would be my "not going to work" point. The other thing to consider is are they tight because it's a new fit/style from what you normally wear or is it uncomfortable because of space. If it's down to fit/style you could give it a few days or weeks to grow accustomed to the new fit.

I would say that if nothing ever changed in the fit, they'd be good. While I do have some classic straight fit Edwins that I like, more often than not I wear fairly slim cuts, but admittedly I don't have any experience in this heavy of a weight. Really my only concern is that after a soak and wash the thighs will just be too snug and won't really stretch back out. I can definitely live with some discomfort as they break in and stretch out.

@indigo_nico If I recall correctly (IHUK Crew - Need a refresher), I think that after a soak you will lose about .3" to .5" in the thighs. Half an inch would be the most you would lose.

If you can afford to lose that much you should be good to go as the waist will definitely stretch back out and everywhere else looks like you have room.

@indigo_nico The thighs will see a little shrinkage on that first soak/wash but nowhere near as much as the waist/inseam. It's a smaller dimension and will shrink proportionally, but thighs are an area that see a good amount of tension through sitting/walking ect so you're going to get some/most of that back as they break in again.

From your picture i'd say you've got room - it's a little hard to tell and of course everyone has a different standard for what they consider comfortable

thanks for the input guys. I'm giving them another go now before I pull the trigger on an exchange. I'm noticing if I wear them a bit lower, like just below my hips, the thighs have a bit more room, but when I sit the back rise drops a lot and puts a lot of underwear on display haha. if I wear them higher up (as it seems they are supposed to be worn given the higher rise?) then the thighs are definitely too tight. mind isn't made up completely yet, but it seems like my waist to thigh proportions just need more in the thigh.

@indigo_nico I’d say if you can’t wear them comfortably now, in any given position. They will be too tight.
I agree, a little discomfort to get a great fit can work wonders. But for me, the thigh is such an important factor. I’ve had jeans that every time I sit the thigh just hugged up so much it made me feel awkward and I ultimately stopped wearing those jeans.

@indigo_nico 888 is an incredible cut. They are super comfy. You will never have to worry about plumbers ass, and they keep a slim leg profile due to the taper. The key it to size the waist as small as possible so that you keep a slim leg profile...then that added thigh width gives the leg some room to breath...

Funnily enough, I have 3-4 pairs of 888s....I have one pair of 555's....I want my UHRs to be 555 because I have pretty skinny legs...I kind of think the 888 and 555 will give a similar silhouette depending on the body type of the person wearing them...since you have thicker thighs you can get the similar look in the 888 (if sized properly) that I would in the 555. Just a little theory of mine...

Just scored a pair of these today. I have no experience with raw denim but Ross and Josh were super helpful walking me through sizing and stuff. I’ve also never worn the 555 cut, coming over from 666. Got em hemmed cause as Ross said, gotta soak and wash em anyway and at that point returns are no go. Stoked to see how they are 🤞🤞🤞
