    @Tiro:

    How did I never see this thread before…
    How, Slainte!

    Good to see a quality Scotch Malt whisky drinker here. Enjoying a dram of Glen Scotia Victoriana right now, myself.

  • RE: Ultra Heavy Raw (UHR), AKA 21/23oz Denim

    Soaked for two hours in super hot water straight from the hot tap at around 70 degrees. Then drip dried for two days.
    Post-soak measurements are:
    Waist: 34.5
    Leg: 30.25
    FR: 12.25
    RR: 16.75
    Thigh: 13.7
    Knee: 9.5
    Hem: 9
    Weight 1.25kg
    This new version of the UHR doesn’t appear to shrink anywhere near as much as the original, which is probably a good thing all in all, I remember getting nearly 2” of leg shrinkage and nearly an inch in the waist, on the old stuff which made guessing post soak sizing real hard. I also note that there is no noticeable leg skew, where as the old stuff twisted like a crazy, as you can see in the photos. I guess this is a preference thing, personally I like the raw nature of leg skew. I’m geeky enough to have weighed the old 634SR in 34 waist 30” leg at 1.25kg, I’m delighted to see the denim weight is the same between both generations.
    If these fade like the original UHR denim the evo on these things is going to be something else as you can see from the two old pairs of mine here. I’ll post some updates on these as the evolve, this denim is the absolute muts nutz, epic to see it coming back in to production.

  • RE: Ultra Heavy Raw (UHR), AKA 21/23oz Denim

    Giles & Alex have very kindly found me a sample pair of 888 in the re-launched UHR denim Here are my initial thoughts on these before I put some wear into them:
    These are tagged 35 waist and have been expertly hemmed to 31 inches in length.
    My pre-soak raw measurements are:
    Waist: 34.75
    Leg: 31
    FR: 12.5
    RR: 17
    Thigh: 13.75
    Knee: 9.5
    Hem 9
    Weight: 1.25Kg
    Denim is slightly lighter in shade than the XHS in the pics (also raw unworn)
    Out if interest the XHS 888 in the pictures are 40” waist 31 leg and also weigh 1.25kg.
    The detailing on these sample jeans is amazing! I’m loving the bronze buttons as seen on the original 2010 21/23 oz 634SR jeans. Selvedge fly details -check, fully lined rear pockets – check, hidden selvedge on coin pocket – check, perfect stitching - check.
    I’d like to put a request in here for 100% cotton stitching on the back pocket arcs, as per the original 634SR’s?

    @Wlemon:

    By the way, I’m just gonna take over this thread as I’m the only one posting here.  😃

    Still lots of love for Ooe here. In the UK at least its almost impossible to get hold of now, when a new run pops, it sells out almost immediately.

    Nice buy Seul, Mortlach is absolutely one of my favourite malts. Signatory are one of the better independent bottlers as well, your in for a treat.

    @el:

    @giles can’t beat the old singer machines. My grandmother bought this new, my mom had the motor changed in the eighties sometime, and I’m still using it today

    Nice machine @el camino. What you have there is a Singer 201, the undisputed pinnacle of domestic Singer production. Unfortunately, with few exceptions, it was all downhill for Singer after this model.

    @Giles:

    I think the bobbin tension is screwed.  It throws a random birds nest on the underside of the fabric every so often.

    If I did not have an alternative, I'd spend more time trying to fix it, but I actually prefer the end-result on the old Singer. And, it's very Zen using it…. 🙂

    I doubt its the bobbin tension. It will Probably be an issue with the upper tension, either its too low (I suspect not as you will have checked this first!) more likely its the little pin that releases the upper tension to allow thread to run through the tensioner on the downward stroke of the needle, when it gets jammed the take up lever pulls from the spool rather than locking the stitch, leaving a loop under the material, which then bird nests. Can’t hurt to try a few drops of oil on the tension release pin, you could also look for a tread jam in the upper tensioner?

    @Giles:

    @Simon will be there and he is a veggie too (yep, and he's still welcome)…

    . I should make Saturday, probably not Friday? That weekend is the Round The Island Yacht Race, which is massive in the boating calendar, the worlds biggest yacht race in boat numbers, should be plenty to see on the water if you make your way to the beach.

    Worn for three months now, no wash. Starting to look good, but hard to see in these photos due to lack of sun today and my poor quality camera!

  • RE: Hard Drinkers, Lets Drink Hard (Spirits, Liquors and Cocktails)

    Any whisky sold at less than 46% ABV will be chill filtered, no matter the cost age or 'quality' if it wasn't the whisky would be cloudy in the bottle and unsalable to 99% of consumers. Colouring is a different matter on the other hand and should not happen, but unfortunately it does now more than ever. Whisky drinkers, particularly in Scotch Whiskys biggest export markets, like whisky to be dark in colour.  :o

    laphroaig 10 is great whisky and I would recommend it to anyone, but Ardbeg 10 is better, truly one of the whisky greats.

    His wind instrument has gone down, so his autopilot won't work, which means he hasn't slept for two days! He's about to cross one of the worlds busiest shipping areas in the dark, this last sprint to the finish is going to be really tough.

    I haven't tried the Distillers edition, so I couldn't say for sure, but personally I'm not a fan of fancy cask finishes.

    I have tried Dark Storm and its not as good as the standard 10yr old.

    @Seul:

    What's the best Talisker in your opinion?.. Kinda wanna have a decent bottle here…

    Personally I like the friends edition and the 57 North, but you can't go wrong with the 10yr, still a great whisky.
