    • RE: Let It Snow!!!! Winter Sports Thread

      @Aetas Thanks for the pictures. After the privilege of being able to ski every year from 2006 to 2017, I haven't been for the last six years and I'm really missing it.

      @Aetas That was quite a surprise to me. I never realised Status Quo made music in that style. I used to see them performing on TV regularly in the 1980s and was never a fan of their musical style at that time.

      That unusual guitar riff has been in my head all day, but in a good way. Thanks for the education.

      I saw these two multi-intrumentalists playing live in the impressive Gigspanner Big Band at the English Folk Dance & Song Society last week.

      Hannah Martin surprised me by singing one song (Estren) in Kernewek, the Brittonic language of Cornwall in south west England.

      Phillip Henry is a very talented player of many types of slide guitar, as well as beatbox harmonica and various other instruments.

      I experienced mushroom poisoning many years ago, and I'm not talking about the psilocybin producing varieties. It was extremely unpleasant, to the point where I started to think death would be preferable.

      I still love mushrooms a lot. 'Amateur poisoners' not so much.

      Edit: This post is just a friendly warning to anyone who is thinking of doing some amateur mushroom hunting, or is offered wild mushrooms. In my case, the person who collected them was well known to me and insisted they were safe to eat. Several people were badly poisoned and it could have been deadly for a child or elderly person.

    • RE: Where does everyone live?

      @hillbilly
      Sometimes I wish I could be a hillbilly.

      I was watching The Thin Red Line last night and there was an exchange between the characters played by Jim Caviezel and Sean Penn:
      Private Witt: Do you ever feel lonely?
      First Sgt. Welsh: Only around people.

      I live in Barnet, London. Barnet was a frequently used and well known word in London when I was younger because it's part of Cockney rhyming slang.

      @Stropio No, You don't need to have played the predecessors to Witcher 3. I didn't.

      Witcher 3 is worth taking some time over. It's in my top 10 list of the most memorable games I've played in the last 41 years.

    • RE: IH-555-02 - 18oz Selvedge Denim Slim Jeans - Indigo

      Just a gentle reminder - I'm sure you all have more important things to do than measure front rises 😉

      @SeruRitchi:

      The Front Rise measurements on the sizing chart look like they might have been mixed up:

      Size 30 - 10.5
      Size 31 - 10.6
      Size 32 - 10.0
      Size 33 - 10.3
      Size 34 - 10.5

      @Giles:

      Ouch, they sure do.  Thanks, we will check…....

      JerUsidae, I'll just echo what others have said. I don't own any 18 oz denim (555-01 only so far) and I was sceptical that they would work for you after a soak, but they look great in your pictures.

      You are too kind Giles, especially as I recall you writing that you hardly make any money on the t-shirts.

      As I wrote in a recent email to Matt, this kind of customer service is what makes Iron Heart UK so much better than other online retailers. Many thanks.

    • RE: IHT-3000 - Plain Loop Wheeled Shitimachi Body Tees - Black, Navy, White & Grey

      Insomnia and an irritating fox in my garden necessitate a first time Iron Heart t-shirt buyer review. Sorry (madmonday) no pictures.

      Quality
      My first impression was that the fabric feels high quality, tougher than most, with a denser weave than other t-shirts I've owned. I feel pleasantly warmer than usual when wearing the Iron Heart t-shirt and did not expect that.

      I have a very nice 3sixteen 'Heavyweight plain tee' that 3sixteen says is made of "a robust 9oz. jersey fabric", but it feels lighter than Iron Heart's 7.5oz tee. Odd.

      I love the loopwheeled construction method; t-shirts look and feel better with no side seams. After several wash and dry cycles it looks as good as new and is becoming softer. I imagine it will age very well.

      Measurements
      I have a 39 inch chest but ordered a size S - 36 because the indicated 19.5 inch shoulders on a size M would be way too big for me.

      The arm opening measurement (6.8" or 17.3 cm) is big for me, but the body has a good fitted look and is a spot-on perfect length for me to wear untucked.

      I might have copped a rogue t-shirt though, because the shoulder measurement on mine is 17.1 inches but the size chart says 18.0". The chest and opening measurement is 19.4" but the size chart says 18.5". Luckily for me, these differences mean the shoulders and body fit perfectly. Unluckily for me, it means I don't know whether another size S-36 will be the same or too tight in the chest 😕

      I also like Jo Malone. After trying several of their scents, Black Vetyver Café was the one I liked the most - "Inspired by the aroma of freshly roasted coffee beans at Dean & DeLuca in New York."

      Mine has just run out and your post reminded me to get some more, but I've just seen that they no longer make it. Fucking annoying.

      @Seul:

      @Giles:

      Cockney rhyming slang.

      Butchers Hook = Look

      Yeah haha I know thàt G - just wondering where the rhyming comes from…

      Being a well bred north Londoner ;), I only use the most common Cockney expressions that have become part of the vernacular in London. I don't have a mockney accent either, so I won't pretend to be an authority on the slang.

      I had always assumed the slang and rhyming was developed by East London 'criminals' so that most people didn't know what they were talking about, but Wikipedia offers much more insight: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cockney_rhyming_slang#History
