    • RE: Red Wing Shoes

I would just nip that errant piece of leather off with a scissors.

The rough out Muleskinner leather is a lot different than most other shoe leather, as far as conditioning goes there are fewer options. I certainly would not use mink oil on them. I don't own a pair of the rough outs and I don't think I would, but if it were me I would probably use the Red Wing suede brush to spot fix and clean. And a regular shoe brush for general duty and daily cleaning and inspection. I would also consider a light spray of some sort of leather protector/water proofing, Kiwi, Red Wing or otherwise. Very light spritzing, definitely would not soak it in.

But the best advice would be to wear the heck out of them. I think the Muleskinners are supposed to look pretty rough, as part of the appeal.

Red Wing Beckman-Gentleman Traveler in Black Cherry flavor. They are close to needing a resole, but still look pretty good. I am a degenerate polisher.

Wow those fringes are something else! I'm not sure I could pull it off, but nice boots either way. If you use a little Soft Soap, (the kind with bleach) those soles will clean up nice. Mine are a few years old with a lot of wear, still look pretty good.

Waiting in line at the DMV wearing a dive watch 🙂 The Seiko Monster is a very useful watch to have around. It is nice to have a reliable auto that can take a beat down.

I really like that GW5000, totally bad ass lifetime watch. I have 2 vintage screwback squares, a 5200 and a gold trimmed 5600, these are my daily workers. I also have a couple of the Frogman, including the solar atomic beast. Gotta love a pile of G's

Jimmy Jam, 1 year old. If there is one thing he likes more than making the bed it is sewing buttons.

My daily workers, RW Iron Rangers back when they were newish, now the brown bits are stained beyond redemption. Love the Rangers for summer.

I normally wear G Shocks or Seiko Divers at work, but I sneak this one in occasionally. It is the HEUER badged Monoco from 1997. The first limited edition reissue. I like how the dial is less busy and a little more legible than the recent Monacos.

      Great watches everyone!

    • RE: Buying doubles / backups: Wear both or save one unworn?

      @madmonday:

s0 pepperco, have you decided on what you are going to do?

      I have not decided 😉

It seems like the majority of posters recommend setting the doubles aside. There have been some great points made for sure. I can see the argument, but I can't really see myself selling the jeans. To clarify, two of the styles are work jeans. Dirty smelly work jeans. The plan is to beat them into submission for 6 months, and then wear them as casual non work jeans after they are properly broken in.

In the past I would simply buy stupid cheap jeans for work, 5 at a time and rotate them until they were trash. Wrangler, Lee, Old Navy, whatever was on sale. They would be amazingly broken in and perfectly trashed, but I would never want to wear them out, or after work. My thought is to break in some nice raw denim at work and once they reach the sweet spot, pull them from work rotation and wear them casually.

I have not worn any of my spares yet, but I think I might soon.

    • Buying doubles / backups: Wear both or save one unworn?

Hello, I hope I am posting this in the right place.

Six months ago I decided I needed to go on a jean buying binge. After spending a lot of money and having many misses I found 4 pairs of different styles that I love. So naturally being OCD I bought a spare pair of each 🙂  I have 4 pairs in rotation, and 4 identical pairs that are unworn.

A couple of the jeans styles are my daily beater work jeans. They are getting broken in nicely. Should I bust out the second pair and break them in to the level of my first pair or should I save them for later? First world problems I know, but I have been thinking about this for days. I'm more inclined to wear both pairs of each, broken in evenly.

      What would you do?

    • RE: Bicycles

Nice bikes everyone! I'm a noob here, but a total bike nerd. Here are my two summer rides in an artsy pose. Outside on the cleaning bench is a Madone 6 with Zipp 404's. Inside is an All City Nature Boy single speed. I ride the steel bike almost daily, the carbon bike is reserved for frisky group rides.

Whoah no shit? Small world! I think there's someone else from MN on here too

I know right, crazy small world. I live over in the 46XX bldg.

If you see a guy wearing Red Wing Iron Rangers, LVC 501's and a V neck white T, that's me, I wear that get up to work every day.

Hey can I borrow that blue shirt?  Kidding, I'm a kidder.
