      Thank you ALL

      My heart broke when I read this. I cried. I have young daughters and I cannot begin to imagine the pain and sorrow you must feel. Haraki, my deepest condolences to you and your family.

    • RE: What's your favorite Beer?

      Wow look what I started. For me the can works well because I can throw it in the recycling bin and its out of sight. Alternatively the bottles build up on the counter and make me look like a drunkard.

      it is not. the system fails if that is the plan.

      find a good doctor that you can trust, be honest, follow through, that's the best you can do

      the gold standard to detect cancer and ulcer disease in the esophagus, stomach, and colon would be an upper and lower endoscopy, biopsies can be performed at the same time, small bowel not so simple but probably a ct enterography or a pill cam study. these are all expensive tests

    • RE: Random questions to which you seek an answer

      kindle format is definitely proprietary but I think bn ebooks are epub format which is widespread, I would guess you could open an ebook bought from bn on any epub reader, not so simple w kindle books

      I like my nook, I'm able to borrow ebooks on it from our local library

      check your library website Chris they may lend ebooks so that may factor in

    • RE: Diets: the whole30, paleo, …!

      obesity, etc is pretty much everywhere, red state blue state matters little. wheat, sugar, agree, with little exception anything that is highly processed and/or has more than 5 ingredients is probably not good for you

      which is why paleo has a lot of great features, but I think the debate about animal products and health is still unsettled, and bottom line is there is never a free lunch in nature; everything choice is likely to have some downside

      for me lately it's been
      1. way more raw green vegetables (thanks vitamix)
      2. more whole foods, less processed foods (pretty much anything that comes in a box)
      3. less animal products

      trying to get off blood pressure meds, I think I'll get there. ran my first half marathon last weekend

      like a week? pretty sure i've always got a ship notice after a few days
      not some sort of a preorder situation? I think they've done that in the past with short run colors and stuff.

      if saturated fat and cholesterol don't matter, why would you need to worry that your animal proteins be lean?

      unless of course you believe the people who say that eating animal products increases your risk of cardiovascular disease, cancer, etc

      I'm not a vegan, just sayin the real truth is hard to know

      seriously, congrats Finn and d666 and all you folks putting in work and making yourselves healthier

      @zhivago:

      Anybody ever tried Darn Tough socks? MikeC I'm looking at you…

      yes I recently got a short pair for running and been sampling them, they're well made and comfy, maybe slightly warm for running this time of year but I'm going to wear them for a half marathon in a few weeks and see how I like them then, love the guarantee for life, I will buy more. I think they make a lighter weight pair than the ones I have

    • RE: Random Rants

      standard course of evaluation and treatment of a chronic problem that's not going to kill you

      1 conservative treatment (PT, rest, meds, time, hand holding, etc)
      2 goes away or doesn't
      3 more aggressive evaluation and treatment

      reasons may be varied but in short some problems will go away with step 1 and your insurance may require failure of step 1 to pay for step 3

      @supersalami:

      oh sorry i've been mistaken! i mean somewhere along the lines of 17-22mm. I've came across the Sigma 17-70mm F2.8-4 DC Macro OS HSM. but seeing that it's a macro… it has slower focus speeds right?

      seems like a decent lens and I can't say that macro lens always equals slower focus speeds, I just don't know, I'm sure the focus speed would be plenty fast for what you would need it for

      seems like a good general purpose lens, I'm sure you can find some in depth reviews from real users, if it fulfills your needs then go for it

      I have no experience with superwides, out jn that range you're getting into fisheye lenses and specialty stuff. Why the want for such a wide lens?
