@Pointman Buy yourself a basic machine and some fabric. Watch a YouTube video. Try making something easy. Don’t be afraid to mess up. When you do mess up, fix the mistake instead of accepting it. Throw pillows make a great practice project.

@motojobobo One of the reasons I still carry a camera on vacations is specifically to limit the amount of minutes my phone is in my hands. A camera lets you disconnect while still capturing moments.

@Giles 100% agree. Sewing isn’t rocket surgery; although, getting seams looking as clean as your team does takes a decent amount of time behind the machine. I really enjoy the puzzle aspect as well. Figuring out how everything fits together and the order of operations is very fun.

Interestingly enough, I figured it would be a hobby that wouldn’t necessarily be something I told everyone about. Not that it’s embarrassing; just not something you go around bragging about. However, my wife seems oddly proud that her husband sews. She tells all her friends. Who would’ve figured.

@Lynne I have the Ultrafeed LSZ. I like it, but I originally bought it to keep on my sailboat. Now that it lives in my office, I’ll likely replace it with a full size machine. I use it for the occasional leather project as well.

I have my Fuji set to jpeg only, that way I can’t reframe in post. I’ve had several unusable images, but it ultimately made me a better and more thoughtful shooter. I also always use a film simulation and don’t edit my Fuji shots at all. I tried to get as close to the film experience as possible without having to deal with scanning negatives or traveling with film.

      I bounce between a Sony A1 and a Fuji X100VI.

The Fuji caused me start carrying a camera much more than I ever did with the Sony, and as the man said, “the best camera is the one you have with you.”

There are many other reasons I think the X100 is great and why I think it helps you become a better shooter, but ultimately, if it makes you take a camera with you more places, that’s all you really need to know …and it’s just plain fun to use.

I hadn’t considered incorporating the pocket bags into the seam. My biggest worry was throwing off the proportions. I felt that if the length of the placket under the bottom snap was shorter than the length between snaps, it wouldn’t look right. This was as short as I could go without crossing that line.

      High praise coming from you!

That machine is a Singer 29K172 I picked up recently. Still tweaking it. This work I did on my Sailrite.

If the whole idea of IH is to invest more time wearing fewer garments, then I figured my favorite shirt should fit as close to perfect as I can get it. No point in investing time in something that only fits pretty well. I started by shortening the bottom hem and slightly softening the curve.

I always feel that a shirt looks best when the front hits mid-fly, the back mid-pocket, and the sides just barely covering your pant pockets. I also wanted to keep it long enough that the space under the original bottom snap wasn’t so short that it looked weird. The last consideration was leaving just a bit of fabric that hung below the pocket bags so they didn’t hang out when I put something heavy in them.

I think the sleeves are next.

I tried my best to replicated the original stitching on the placket

I also threw a couple bar tacks on either side of the name tab on the chest pocket, then removed the stitching between them to open up a pencil slot.

Having just a little of your fly exposed really lengthens the look of your leg, and I need all of that I can get!

Frida works so well on the pointer finger with the rosettes going so far down the sides.

My grail piece was also the piece that introduced me to the brand. The Pale Rider

Honorable mention to my new Fat Fot 22.5oz Foxfiber ducks from N&F.

@FlavourFade ha! It’s sort of know as the department store in the US most famous for crazy customer service. Free alterations, unquestioned returns beyond their stated policy, bending over backwards for customers… you just pay for it up front with crazy priced goods.

I appreciate the small batch and small business struggles. This was also the #1 item on my SJ hit list and I missed out, but I guess it wasn’t meant to be. His carefree-ness is appealing as a lifestyle, but it also means your interactions with the company aren’t going to feel like you’re being waited on hand and foot. This isn’t Neiman Marcus. I think you just have to be cool with getting a special piece now and then and missing out on some; otherwise SJ just isn’t for you. …at least that’s what I’m telling myself after missing out.

My only sashiko are a pair of Naked & Famous sashiko pants, and they are some of my softest and most breathable pants. Kinda makes me wonder with everyone saying theirs is a winter-only fabric

This really throws a wrench in things with IH also releasing so many beautiful, textured, non-denim indigo shirts this season.

      @worn2fade said in 4x4’s & Overlanding:

@Go-For-Chill looks killer bro! I’ve never hunted but always wanted to try it. What do you have now?

After the Taco I got a Tundra TRD Pro with the hybrid V6. Then I realized a sports car and older truck would both cost less than the Tundra, so I got a 2000 F-350 with a 7.3L diesel, 6 speed manual, and no emissions garbage, AND a BMW M2. Both together were about $25k less than the Tundra. Funny enough, both get better fuel economy than either the Tacoma or the Tundra! Win/win/win!

My old rig. No overlanding, but lots of hunting and fishing. My hunting group’s last deer lease was quite large, so I would camp at the back of the property away from everyone so I wouldn’t make a ruckus when I set out to hunt the next morning.
