@boutsk With the XHS, you will probably lose about .5” and up to 1.5” in the waist washing it that way. The waist will stretch back out while the other areas (unless they are under tension) should not.

Thank you. Have you got any idea how much will lost at front and back rise?

I have a brand new pair of XHS. Haven't soaked/washed them yet. I lost some weight during summer and there's some excess fabric in the back. If I make a very very hot soak and then machine wash them (cold or warm), will shrinkage be permanent or will stretch back to pre soak measurements? Of course inseam and hem will not. I'm asking about thighs, front and back rise.

@boutsk thanks for the response! now lemme ask, do you have a UHF in size Large? if so, how does the fit compare to the CPO?

Unfortunately I don't have any IH UHF. I have the ihsh-33 denim shirt and fit is very similar. Maybe 293 is a bit shorter

@boutsk this is the fit I'm going for. I'm 2" taller and stick skinny, I'm wondering if I should go with the Large anyways. I had TJ at Shop Vancouver measure their XL and it came up sounding way big so I don't want to end up making a mistake

Depends on the fit that you like. I could have gonne with XL for a looser fit and wear it also as an overshirt. Unfortunately, regarding Japanese tops, L are a bit snug and XL a bit loose for me. When I want to layer underneath, I choose XL (and they still look a bit loose). And size L if I wear them just with a t-shirt. It's style vs comfort for me 😥

@boutsk how do you feel the thigh is? If you think you can afford for that to tighten up and stay that way, then give the wash thing a go.

I always start with a cold wash first. See how that works out. If I’m looking for more then I go to a warm wash….then finally if I need extreme results go with a hot wash.

Thighs will be ok even if tightened up. Maybe back rise will be ok with a hot soak, but I don't know if this will be permanent. My 25 oz Samurai (unsanforized and unwashed) were perfect after a warm soak and a cold machine wash but after 1-2 months waist, back and front rise and thighs returned to pre-soak measurements

I personally have bought iron heart jeans that were a little in the tight side to begin with and some that were slightly roomier to begin with and have found while the roomier ones were of course more comfortable off the bat, after a bit of wear the tighter pair always look and fit better and the roomier ones just end up too baggy for me……but of course it’s all personal taste, but that’s just my two cents!

I'd like to do the same. I had a bad experience with my first selvedge pair (a Momotaro that never stretched due the tight wave). So next time I'd ordered a more comfortable pair of Samurai that ended up baggy. Already listed them for sale, I may look for a tighter fit.

@boutsk I think those look great! You have a nice slim silhouette but still looks like you have room for movement and comfort.

Thighs, waist, and length will come in with a wash. Waist will stretch back out...thighs and length will not.

It looks like you could come in on the thighs some, but that may lose you a bit of the easy comfort you have now. 888 is the perfect solution for thigh comfort but still a slim taper. 888 is my favorite cut. So easy to wear and look great!

Thanks. I like everything except from the rear excess fabric. Of course it is still stiff but I can see that there's more fabric there compared with my other well fitted jeans.
I'm gonna wear them during fall/winter so I will gain 2-3 kg, but I wonder if a very hot soak followed by a machine wash (gentle cycle) will fix this.

Scored this one on kleinanzeigen, second hand but in great shape (almost new). Size is L (I am 184cm and 84kg when pictures taken- now 80kg). I have a 526pj in XL to wear with my thicker shirts, so gonna rock this just with t-shirts. I am quite impressed with the quality. Definitely my favourite shirt!

They feel comfortable. I think if I size down, everything will still be still good, except from the hips, they will be too tight. Other option is trying 888, size 33... Also I don't know how they will fit after soaking/washing them. My other 25oz pair is a Samurai S710. I sized up because it was unsanforized and unwashed. Perfect fit after washing them but everything -except length- stretched back and now they are a bit loose.

First XHS for me, 555 cut, size 34. I am 184cm and 80 kg, with -a bit- wide hips. I bought it when I was 84 kg and was uncomfortable while sitting. Haven't soaked/washed yet. Waistband now sit comfortably on my belly (I need belt if will stretch more) and movement is not restricted . Not a super slim fit though... What do you think?

@Mizmazzle @popvulture Great advice gentlemen!! @MassiveThighs In agreement! When sizing XHS, buy them to fit the waist the way you like as they will shrink with wash but stretch back out with wear. The only areas to be concerned with are the legs (thighs, calves, etc.). The area lost in shrinkage will just about be impossible to gain back.

Will front and back rise stretch back with wear?

I'm on the same boat. I bought mine before months. Waist was perfect (and hips too tight), but now there's a thumb space. I listed it at sales area because I don't want to end up with a 400$ loose pair of jeans, but also wonder what will happen with a hot soak (2-3 hours in hottest tap water 70°C - 80°C) and a 60°C machine wash....

May I ask what the measurement of the thigh, knee and hem of your favorite pair of straight jeans are (or what you aim for), please? Just trying to figure out what your baggy is 😃

Also, would you say the measurements here were about right for your experience with the 35? They are from the Samurai site.

    Screenshot 2024-03-22 at 12.07.08.png

    Waist, thigh, knee, inseam, hem

Also thanks for helping me figure this out!

Regarding the waist, Samurai measures the circumference inside the waist. Also they measure the thighs differently (I think from the edge of the crotch to the side seam)
