Story time
Last year I received a pair of 888-UHR as a gift from @Memphisakers and it actually started a short lived topic called 'the filthy gift' where you give away an item and the person who wants it also gifts an item etc. in Memoriam of late forum legend Mike.
Fast forward about 18 months of almost continuous wear and 3 soaks. Hope I made Mike proud
I could tell by the color of the water, that this would be a good soak.
The coulor after the rinse is like perfect blue
This is where I'm at:
I'll be sending em back to IH for a hem and will take a picture under natural light once I get 'em back, these pictures don't to this pair justice
Last saturday was one for the history books. I was able to grill a whole left beefribcage over an open fire on a home made setup. Took about 8u of both direct and indirect heat. The result was incredible and I ended up sharing the food with 40 people.
The food and drink was good, but the time spend with friends and family were de real soulfood. This is why I love BBQ.
like you, I'm on a similar path. In the last "Ironcast" episode, @Blowoutthecobwebs spoke about a Netflix series called 'the minimalists' that I actually watched a couple years ago when it just came out and while the guys voice is quite annoying what he said still sticks with me to this day.
My wife left me in the beginning of last year and despite it being an emotional shitstorm, it also gave me the opportunity to start fresh. Half my house was empty and I could chose if I wanted to replace something or not. Instead of just going to Ikea and getting the same items, I'm taking my time living with less stuff and found out I rarely miss anything. If I do have to buy something, I'm going for the best item to serve my purpose.
As for clothes, the biggest thing that got me to reduce my wardrobe is to only buy black clothes. (with the exception of my 21/23OZ because IH doesn't make that in black YET)
Going into the city center, I see so many people aimlessly shopping around trying to fill some sort of void that it's really making me sad sometimes. Or going into stores like H&M or Zara and seeing all that crap clothing just waiting to be worn once and thrown out, all the labor and effort for people who don't need it... We give cars such a bad rep for ruining the planet, and nobody bats an eye about people throwing out 81 pounds of clothing each year, it blows my mind.
Anyway, I always have an eye open for interesting stuff, but rarely do I buy something now because I 'need it' and that helps keep my focus on what's most important: my kids.
I love how the crazy scales start at 4
Thanks for the comments guys, I didn't know Mike outside the forum, but to me, he kind of symbolized the spirit of this forum.
We are all just mortal people from all walks of life with different backgrounds, on different paths in life, Coming together to share a common passion in denim, trying to spread some joy and friendship.
Going to wake this post up from the dead.
When I was a kid, I rode mountain bikes all over the place, got older and switched to motorcycles. Then I got kids, abandoned the 2 wheelers and started getting into BBQ. My ex bought a TERN GSD Longtail and told me to also go electric to keep up. I caved and bought a Cowboy bike but was never a fan of electric bikes so I didn't ride it much.
Fast forward to a month ago when a coworker asked me if I wanted to sell him my bike. I agreed and decided it was time for me to get the bike I've always wanted and get into a new hobby along the way. For some reason, I've always been drawn to Ti bikes, the simple, strong frame paired with the corrosion resistance made it a 'one bike to rule them all'.
So I bought a Van Nicholas Rowtag With a Shimano GRX820 groupset and DT Swiss wheels. I'm still in my early stages and rode about 300km so far, No 'Click in' pedals yet because I'm not yet 100% at ease. Doing as much commuting as I can to build up stamina and when I have the time, I use komoot to help me find the small roads to get home.
I really dig riding 'gravel', It brings me back to my MTB days but my experience from riding motorcycles helps in reading the trials and keeping my momentum going. Looking forward to much more happy rides and for those interested, the Ti does not disappoint, it has a certain sturdy yet comfortable feel so I couldn’t be happier. I’m only at the start of this new hobby but things look promising for sure.
I gave my boots their spring cleaning over the weekend and couldn't resist sharing a picture of my Wolverine 1000Miles in Horween Chrome Excel. These started their life black in 2014 and have been resoled once.
The other boots I own are:
Alden Wick boot (from SOP) 1x resole (bought in 2020)
Y2 EB-01 Eco Horse Engineer boots (bought in 2022)
Most days, I wear either one of these 3 pairs.
@TheChef17 I own the IHSH-240-BLK and IHSH-157 and they are my favorite UHF's
@Alex Right now, the classic 18-55mm but I'm planing on going as big as a 55-210mm
Wow, those went fast! no 34 left
any plans on making the 1955 in SBG? If not, I might 'have'to spring for this. Love the 1955 cut and need a darker pair to feed the inner goth.
My dad just gave me his old Nikon D5200 and I'm looking for a bag to store it, This looks like it might do the trick. Anybody use it as a small camera bag?
My boys turned 7 and 9 over the last couple of weeks. Since last year, I've made it a tradition to all go on a week long holiday (we went to Marocco last year - I think I posted some pictures)
This year, we went to Ibiza. The week went by like crazy, and I got filled with so many emotions I could barely keep track.
They are still my baby boys, but I can see and feel them growing older. I still put my 7y old on my shoulders during walks every time he asks me too because I know that one day, it'll be the last time. Same with bedtime stories and all the other little things.
Poor guy, he can never go back
