Story time
Last year I received a pair of 888-UHR as a gift from @Memphisakers and it actually started a short lived topic called 'the filthy gift' where you give away an item and the person who wants it also gifts an item etc. in Memoriam of late forum legend Mike.
Fast forward about 18 months of almost continuous wear and 3 soaks. Hope I made Mike proud
I could tell by the color of the water, that this would be a good soak.
The coulor after the rinse is like perfect blue
This is where I'm at:
I'll be sending em back to IH for a hem and will take a picture under natural light once I get 'em back, these pictures don't to this pair justice
Last saturday was one for the history books. I was able to grill a whole left beefribcage over an open fire on a home made setup. Took about 8u of both direct and indirect heat. The result was incredible and I ended up sharing the food with 40 people.
The food and drink was good, but the time spend with friends and family were de real soulfood. This is why I love BBQ.
like you, I'm on a similar path. In the last "Ironcast" episode, @Blowoutthecobwebs spoke about a Netflix series called 'the minimalists' that I actually watched a couple years ago when it just came out and while the guys voice is quite annoying what he said still sticks with me to this day.
My wife left me in the beginning of last year and despite it being an emotional shitstorm, it also gave me the opportunity to start fresh. Half my house was empty and I could chose if I wanted to replace something or not. Instead of just going to Ikea and getting the same items, I'm taking my time living with less stuff and found out I rarely miss anything. If I do have to buy something, I'm going for the best item to serve my purpose.
As for clothes, the biggest thing that got me to reduce my wardrobe is to only buy black clothes. (with the exception of my 21/23OZ because IH doesn't make that in black YET)
Going into the city center, I see so many people aimlessly shopping around trying to fill some sort of void that it's really making me sad sometimes. Or going into stores like H&M or Zara and seeing all that crap clothing just waiting to be worn once and thrown out, all the labor and effort for people who don't need it... We give cars such a bad rep for ruining the planet, and nobody bats an eye about people throwing out 81 pounds of clothing each year, it blows my mind.
Anyway, I always have an eye open for interesting stuff, but rarely do I buy something now because I 'need it' and that helps keep my focus on what's most important: my kids.
I love how the crazy scales start at 4
Went for my 4th backpiece session - first time I was able to hold on for more then 3h.
Still loads of work to come
Thanks for the comments guys, I didn't know Mike outside the forum, but to me, he kind of symbolized the spirit of this forum.
We are all just mortal people from all walks of life with different backgrounds, on different paths in life, Coming together to share a common passion in denim, trying to spread some joy and friendship.
My boys turned 7 and 9 over the last couple of weeks. Since last year, I've made it a tradition to all go on a week long holiday (we went to Marocco last year - I think I posted some pictures)
This year, we went to Ibiza. The week went by like crazy, and I got filled with so many emotions I could barely keep track.
They are still my baby boys, but I can see and feel them growing older. I still put my 7y old on my shoulders during walks every time he asks me too because I know that one day, it'll be the last time. Same with bedtime stories and all the other little things.
Went in for another session last week and a buddy wanted to join me for some moral support. He is a photographer so the images are better then what I can usualy share.
been lurking here for a while, thought I'dd make my first contribution.
I'm a single dad with a 5 and a 7y old and while they can be a hand full, I never thought I would enjoy being a dad this much. Didn't realy like kids before (still don't exept my own tbh)
A couple tips I wish I knew earlier:
@SKT a little secret road that you deff want do take when doing the Ring of Kerry is called 'Priest's Leap'.
Loved the light in my living room / dining room today so took some pictures (the crap camera on my phone doesn't do it justice)
Yesterday I was playing Mastermind with my 8y old and this happened.
For those of you who don't know the game, the idea is that one person creates a random code of 8 different colors and the other person has to get the right code in as few moves as possible.
My son was able to guess my code instantly. This comes down to pure luck of course (1 in 4096), but I can't help feel like he is a chip of the old block if his mind works same as mine.
@drewfonse Hey, I own a pair of 888-14SBG and a pair of 888-UHR, The top block fit is about the same as the 1955, except the 1955 fits slightly higher, around the bellybutton for me. If you wear it a little lower, you get plenty of room in the thigh area but your crotch will also drop a bit.
I find its more comfortable to drop the crotch on the 1955 and wear it relaxed but still fitted then the 888.
The only other difference is that the leg on the 1955 is straight but the 888 tapers a bit. its slightly noticeable and depending on your body time and height, it can work out better. Just note that both still have enough leg opening for boots to be worn under.
