      @emceeQ:

A while ago I remember someone posting a link to a book about fly fishing in cities and the like.  I searched all over and can't seem to find the post in question.

Anyone by chance remember the name of the book? Giles maybe?

I'd like to get a copy of it for my father…

And I read it and loved it….But is less of a guide, more of a philosophical treatise....

How do you all fell about selling items rcvd as gifts or deeply discounted?  I think it's kind of slimy (especially when the person is/was part of a loosely-tightly-knit-informal-formal-organization-clique-squad) but wanted to see if someone could help me to look at the matter in a different light.

              Thanks

Personally, I have deeply discounted stuff for favours given and I get feckin mad when I see the item/items selling for more than I sold it for.  I think that it is bloody bad manners…..

unless the sale price is a nominal fee to cover shipping and trouble I think it's shady

i think it's bad manners/form as well, & will give my brief perspective.

many moons ago we had a pretty interesting discussion about the forum dynamic & the concept of "mates" & "family", "brotherhood" & all that kind of good stuff. i said we aren't all "mates" to the person i was speaking with & unfortunately that practice falls into selling "gifts".

for most of my life i've been a part of numerous organizations which have very distinct honor system which for the most part puts me at odds with a large segment of the population.  although I'm pretty laid back, most of those things really stick with me & governs the way I interact with people. it's also one of the reasons i actually admire forum members that aren't always popular (injun & one of the adams come to mind) but are true to their own value system.

any ways, just thought it was worth getting a different perspective

A good post to think about Monday.  Thanks for that.

I run into it most often when searching ebay.  When someone on an actual forum does it, they usually get called out.

Buying/selling records is a good example, but I've noticed it with clothing/shoes as well.

I have a fucking distinct honor system right here, it's called being half-Korean.

I have deleted a series of posts.  I came back from holiday in a good mood, now I am in a distinctly bad one.  If you children can't behave yourselves in public, I will throw you out of the playground.  I have better things to do with my time than clean up after you.

Injun, you'll never know and that that is precisely the point.  Thus your post is completely redundant….

My first asking price for the duck rider must've pissed you off then… I see I still majorly fuck up now and then... No disrespect meant, G... And I completely understand where you're coming from...

Seriously some food for thought, Mad'un... I try to never let money be the decisive factor in anything I do...

Food for thought MM, and I definitely agree that gifts should not be retailed. I have received offers for Tommys IH-MINI now that he is outgrowing them, but the way I see it is that they were a gift from H, and are now Tommys jeans (which he loves), so what to do with them is his decision, but they will never be sold.

If Tommy ever decides to pass them on they will be going straight over to to Jeffs (D666) boy Jake as a gift, but for now Tommy wants to hang them on his bedroom wall  😃

Does denim weight have anything to do with how tight a pair feels? As in would a 21oz pair with the same measurements as a 14.5oz pair feel any tighter or is the difference negligible? Thank you denim gurus…:D
