        Does anybody have any idea who started using heavy canvas/denim for boot quarters?

          I've seen cowboy boots from the 30s using denim for tops.  No idea who did it first, though.

            Thanks Chris. I was just wondering if it's indeed Iron Heart that started using denim for the viberg scouts collab. Since seeing MF is also going that route albeit with heavy canvas, so I thought maybe it was used by the military etc. back then.

              Some additional Google searching shows that a few different militaries experimented with canvas uppers for boots, specifically for jungle use.  The US had one in 1942, the French had one in 1947 (basically the Palladium Pampa), other countries were doing similar models around the same time.  The US Army M-1966 jungle boot (first issued in 1966, surprisingly enough) mixed leather and canvas construction, so that's probably more in line with what you're looking for.  I'm not sure there's a definitive answer to your question.  Or if there is, it will require more research and probably by someone better at it than I.

                Your input is already good enough for me thanks. So my 1st thought of associating it with militaria has its ground. Will do further googling. Again thanks Chris.

                with further research i found this which answers part of my queries;

                Combat boots have developed over the years, influenced by the perceived need at the time. Pre-Vietnam, they were all leather with thick soles. However, experiences in the tropics saw the development of a lighter weight boot with a canvas upper, allowing the boot to breath and dry out quicker. The modern boot could be called a hybrid.

                  While not a replica MF mentions a bit of the history of the jungle/okinawa boots in the story board to the trooper.
