I'm reasonably sure the IHSH-36 description used to mention coconut shell buttons, if it didn't then the buttons on my 44 & 36 are certainly different from the ones on my 46 & 21?  :-\

I think the 36 and 44 have coconut shell buttons, but I lost some webpages recently and had to recreate…..

44 button Vs 46; as well as a material difference, also a size difference.

GHBK16, great question. To get the most use and stand up to abuse I agree with Dr Pat Superblack anything. For various climates I say the 13 and will give my reasoning. The 13 is priced abit less than many items but can be worn with many fits in various ways and look none the worse for wear. I have never had issue with having to reinforce my snaps but on my workshirts of various materials getting the buttons to stay put is always an issue. After answering just thought if you meant for a cold or hot climate and top, bottom or outerwear.

Hey Giles, you said the 634SR and the 666S have poly constructional thread in the yoke and hips; I know where the yoke is, are the hips the side seams from the waistband to below the pockets?

Thanks for the thoughtful response. As for climate, I'm in Brooklyn so a little bit of everything as you know.  Looks like I'll have to give the 13 a try…and maybe some Superblack bottoms.

Cool.  So, follow up question- why use poly on only those places, rather than cotton like the rest of the seams?

not quite, jvf was complaining about stitching at the waistband, which is different than the yoke

Those are areas of greatest strain, thus H likes to use the strongest thread he can….In his words (and remember this applies to only the 666S and the 634SR:

Basically, we use cotton. But the parts will be exerted, like hip and yoke, we use polycotton.
