I know these are bomb proof I'm sure, but applying Obenaufs LP to the water buffalo will be fine right? The only reason I'm second guessing it is because of how matte black it is, I don't want a shine. Anyways, thanks in advance.

Same question: should I treat my Tricker's (waxed, matte leather) with Obenauf's?.. Best way to dry it?.. Hairblower?.. If it's dried completely, is it ok to apply a water-repellant (sp?) spray?..

Don't want a shiny outcome either!..

Would like to treat them this weekend, so… Anyone?..  😞

To be honest, I wouldn't do anything to those but if you have to I don't think obenaufs will make them shine any more than they do now. I don't use water repellent spray anymore on better shoes because it takes away from the breathing capabilities of the leather.

Thanks. Yeah I was more worrying about applying the water repellent spray… Probs skipping that and just using Obenauf's on them...

                          derivative666: thanks  🙂

                            Hi Seul

I've used obenaufs LP on brown waxed boots (LL Bean/Chippewa) and shiny-ish Blundstone 550s. Neither of them went shiny, the waxed boots went darker and the Blunnies actually went quite matte. You can buff Obenauf treated boots to a bit of a shine, but I'd say that's only really on shiny non-waxed boots.

I wouldn't spray them as well unless you really want to - the obenaufs should pretty much keep everything out, especially if you make sure to do the seams and stitching. When I put a very thick coat on my Blunnies, I did melt it in with a hair dryer, but again that might not be as good an idea with your waxed boots.

                            M.

Thanks a lot, Michael!.. You're quickly becoming one of my most useful sources on here  😉 😘

So I should just let the Obenauf polish soak in naturally?.. Guess 48 hours should do… If they become even darker: brilliant!.. They already match perfectly with my superblack gear but hey!..  😃

So yeah: a spray will definitely not be used, and buffing them was out of the question anyhow!..

My pleasure mate. I'm guessing you're using the LP, not the Leather Oil? You can use either, but the Leather oil goes on very thick and wet (then evaporates, so it does looks ok) and I usually just use it on shiny finish leather after a coat of LP has had time to bed in. I'd start with a very light coating of LP, to see if you like it, and I always use my fingers to rub in the wax as the heat from your fingers will help it soak in. Try it on a less visible bit first (the heel or lower tongue) to see if you like the effect. When you're done, leave them overnight to let it soak in, then wipe off any excess. If you like the result, you can always slap a load more on!

                                M

I like the Filson flannels. $85 cheap and basic colors.
