So I ran out of hard drive space on my macbook pro… Transferred my iTunes library to an external hard drive. Now, I am unable to add songs or albums to my iTunes library. Is there something I'm missing here? The songs play fine from the external, but no matter what I do, i can't get any new songs imported..

Any advice out there?

yeah, you can't use external storage to directly upload songs into itunes library..sort of apples ways to prevent you from "copying the songs all over the place..

Well, that's the thing, I'm not trying to import them from the external… It won't even transfer the album purchases I made on my iPhone..

In Prefs, under the Advanced section, where is your iTunes Media folder defined and do you have "Keep iTunes Media" & "Copy files to iTunes" checked?
