Who makes the best waxed cotton jacket?

Hi All,

I'm in the market for a super high end waxed cotton jacket, but I don't know which brands I should look at.

I am basically looking for the iron heart equivalent of the waxed cotton jacket world…

Ship John makes an amazing one but they're super backed up on orders.

Freenote Cloth makes a really nice one too, blanket-lined at that. Had one for a while, sold it because it was a bit boxy but built like a tank.

Being from the UK I would say a vintage Barbour or better still a Belstaff, the cuts won't be as sharp as the modern versions, but the quality is far better.

RGT also do a sturdy range of waxed canvas jackets. There is no lining in this one, but I purchased for here in the UK as a summer jacket. Quality is great, but I suspect not shoulder to shoulder with Ship John. It is also now widely known to be making an appearance on Bonds back in the new 007 when it finally hits the cinema later in the year. Def worth a check out @phillyforager

I like the RGT jacket as well, though since there is no lining it can feel a bit flimsy when wet. Maybe I am just used to Iron Heart gear, though? Still, a great jacket.

I believe Primark and H&M also have nice jackets as well. Now bear in mind they might set you back anywhere from 15-25 euros or so, but still
And they dissolve in the rain, so there's that.

I used to own the RgT waxed supply jacket. Nice jacket but kinda thin. I think it was around 7oz or so. I ended up selling it because waxed canvas gets dirty easily, doesn’t breathe well and are a pain to rewax. I have a Filson waxed tin cruiser that hardly gets worn for the same reasons.

I'll put in another mention of Freenote Cloth. I've got the Rider's Jacket. Modified type II design. 10oz Martexin waxed canvas. Blanket lined. It is a sturdy, well constructed piece.

Built like a tank and most propably the most sturdy jacket on the planet.
Dehen also makes decent waxed field and club jackets.
