Best part of the video is hearing the patch go clicking across the table like a poker chip when Giles drops it.

Out of curiosity, how long and how hot is the OD wash?  Are there any non-trade secrets that could be shared?  I'm thinking about an OD project of my own and I'd like to replicate the professional version as well as possible.

unless you have a large pot you could "boil" your jeans in i wouldn't bother. just comes out patchy or not set in probability [use salt to help set]. also there is all kind of "BLACK" you obviously want blue based.

because otherwise G. would have had many more SRs in need of the additional OD-treatment  😃

If you are referring to the special soaking instructions on a new/regular pair, the info. is on page 35.

I'm not planning to do jeans, just a couple of smaller items and I have an old 5 gallon bucket I was planning to use.  I think it will allow enough movement so that the dye won't get patchy.

Why would I want blue based dye?  I didn't know there was more than one kind of black…

blue base dye because i thought you were dyeing jeans.

black is not a real colour, its made up for several colours just really dark. eg. have you ever seen something written in black vivid/felt tip pen and it gets smudged or wet? the smudge sometimes runs blue, purple, red etc that's the main base color it was used to create the "BLACK"

also its hard or impossible to dye synthetic fibres such as nylon etc.. have fun!

                                    Alright people:

I've worn these for 2 days now and the OD shit is absolutely brilliant. I was fearing a black black with greyish (like in durrrrty snow), but not at all, it is a black with blueish overtones. Beautiful. A couple of fade marks have appeared on the back pockets.

Beatle, I now understand your passion for OD'd pants. I was not a fan of the concept, but the actual thing made me a convert. Not that I'm going to have all my pants od'd from now on, but…

There has to be a way to DIY and not fuck it up. I just found this

With my limited knowledge, not too much.  But if you were a die hard denimhead, it is all the rage.  Perhaps it is how the thread is sewn together and apparently it gives a better "roping" effect on the hem.  You can't chain stitch in Nordstrom BTW.  Chain-stitch requires specialize sewing machines.  SE/Blue in Green/IH UK and maybe a few other specialty denim stores in the U.S. can do it for you.  If you are just planning to do a plain hem, warn them that the SR (and in fact, all IH jeans) are super tough.  My seamstress broke the needle sewing mine!
