The designs themselves are almost always great in terms of art. They've been better in the past at walking the balance between that and functionality. Which makes for even better art

I thought of a couple of other things to first world gripe about:). One is the mixed message on future peripheral standards. MBA gets bumped to Thunderbolt 2 while MB gets USB-C. The latter is ultimately the right play but it's a mixed message for sure. I suspect USB-C may replace Apple's proprietary device adapters too; it probably should, infuriating though it would be.
Other thing is the Watch charger is pretty bad. Bulky and only charges that one device. Seems like a hassle for travelers.
It seems to me that Cook is turning Apple into a commodities supplier in the vein of HP with their printer and toner model. Adapters aren't consumables, but their strategy almost seems geared towards selling them (or licenses).

TL;DR: you have to buy more cables, adapters, etc.

for one, i've always preferred transferring or doing stuff by wire. the motive of apple, apart from a scheme to get you to buy their adapters, is that believing we will need lesser cables when more devices go wireless. but have you compared wireless airdrop to a thunderbolt to thunderbolt transfer?! the difference is huge. for that, i've never believe in wireless transfer unless i really have to.
it's always apple's standards to get you to buy their adapters and such. it's only this time they're pushing it further with the usb type-c.
The 13 retina mbp looks like a good buy. though they missed out on the 15 being updated and i was quite disappointed. just updated my 2011 mbp to ssd so i guess i could wait awhile before upgrading. using both the 13in air and 15in mbp. i have to say i'd still prefer the 15in screen.

I think Apple always likes to push ahead. That's been good in the past. Ditching the floppy seemed insane, ditching things like RBG connectors, etc. In this case they've gone way too far. But I like really small form factors so the MBPr 13 is an attractive option.

The audience for the MB is college/uni student for sure, maybe even high school. It's not for professionals or serious work. It's an iPad upsell, and a 'cool' new device. Most of those don't need wires and will likely not even carry a charger with them if the battery is as good as on the box. It's a great move to advance further in the teens/early twenty's market segment.

I disagree. If anyone needs to have peripherals it's the device-laden millennials. And it's a higher price point than that segment would prefer. And it won't play games. I don't see it as an iPad upsell, I see it as a confused iPad replacement. $0.02

Just out of curiosity: does anyone have any experience with smart watches? I wonder what's their durability
I've seen actual watches stop functioning at the shooting range just from the concussion of firing, I'd like to see how these things hold up since they probably don't have any moving parts

MCL, aren't they all in the cloud now? with their iPhone and iPad, AirDrop, AirPlay, AirWhatever, and iCloud? Nothing needs a cable, just wifi and internets.
Praps, though charging an iPhone while also charging the laptop, or outputting video while charging, etc., all seem like core use cases to me. And requiring a bulky and expensive dongle for that kind of defeats the whole point of the svelte, Spartan design IMO. One more USB-C port on the opposite side even would help. Still hate the M too.
One other thing is that Apple has allegedly been investigating audio over Thunderbolt. If they're looking to go one port for EVERYTHING, power, peripherals, and audio, that really seems an idea ahead of its time. Needlessly creating a logjam at the sole peripheral interface… And I for one don't like wireless earphones.

How often do people plug things into their laptop?
I work as an Android developer, and so there's sometime a need for me to connect my phone. Apart from that I've used a USB hard disk a few times to move files between machines.
I suspect that ports aren't needed that often by most people, and those of us who do require them are more of a corner case. Besides, I'm fairly certain that Apple would point us to a Pro.
It might be that the designers figured that they could reduce weight and power consumption by the compromise. Then again, my Surface Pro 3 is thinner and lighter and has separate USB, Mini DVI and power ports.
The use case that Apple are probably looking at is someone who wants a slick, slimline machine for running Office, email, and surfing the web. The CEO of the last company I worked out had a Dell XPS convertible tablet on my first stint, and a MacBook Air on my last. I could see him getting one.

M process is not for you, but it's probably for those who just want to stay cool and have no need for performance, as long as YouTube loads….

iPhone 6 last long enough, so no need (and 6s/7 will be better!). Who does video? These (Edit, specifically this MacBook are consumption devices mate, not creation devices.

Macs used to be the standard for many engineers and designers, I'd say that is creative. Granted that they will probably use desk top Macs mainly, but it does limit those who like portability and connectivity.
