What do you consider "raw" denim to mean?

To me raw is denim that has no more than one initial soak before hitting shelves and has zero pre-distressing. When I think of raw denim I think of a jean that looks the way it does because the wearer got them to that point not because someone sandblasted them before sending them to the retailers.

I think I will try and go 16 or 18. The easiest route is to use the vintage 16 and/or 18 and not sanforise or wash) it…..

I way late chiming I’m on this discussion but chime in I will.
From everything I’ve read, studied and even the „Denim Course „ I attended. RAW means Loom State. I’m disturbed with chemical and or water influence. That’s the end. I don’t consider one superior to another. It becomes a preference for most and for some a matter of pride.
I personally prefer Sanfordized or one-washed jeans although inhaftiert some raw jeans before. I don’t like to try to make it a who’s right, who’s wrong thing. Everyone should just enjoy his jeans and do as they please. Nonetheless, raw means raw. :).
