I'm still due for a write up of my Hamilton, but I haven't started wearing it yet… The stock strap is really crappy, and I wouldn't dare wear it as is.

Da Luca had some straps on sale (NATO, of course), so I'm waiting on those.

      In search of:
      IHV-04, med.
      IHSH-185, large
      IHSH-186, large (khaki, and green)

Otherwise, it looks great and the upward curve of the case is pretty traditional for field watches.

I don’t doubt it, but it seems a little too traditional for my tastes. I’d like a little less 1944 and a slightly more «modern version of a classic», but that is just me, and Hamilton do provide that, often with other slightly annoying stuff however.

I guess I'm showing my ignorance here but I thought the concave shaping of the bezel was unusual for a field watch and made that design less rather than more traditional.

          Think it, be it.

I’m a complete noob at this, but I’ve seen period watches with that exaggerated curve and high rim. I think that generally more modern iterations tend to play it down. But don’t take my word for it. I’m sure one of our more enlightened brethren can school us.

Neph beat me to it. It’s a very common feature of field watches from about 1980 onwards. The field watch by CWC is similar but not as dramatic.
@untucked those are cool but with a plastic case. A cool option though.

Did you send your Rolex back to their service center? I need to have my Explorer I cleaned but I wanted to keep my original hand set and dial.

I've heard that Rolex will retain the original hands and dials if you ask them. It'd be worth calling your local service centre to confirm.

yeah i did. besides a service, this was actually to remedy a power reserve problem i've been having for the past few months. the watch did not store enough even if it was worn daily. i had this issue remedied when i just bought the watch back in 2013 so this is considered my first service and i decide for the first, i'll send it back to them.

apparently, the quotation also stated that the crown had dings and had to be replaced. i told my dealer no as i like the imperfection of wearing the watch daily. unfortunately, they said that rolex had to replace the crown or not do anything to the watch at all as it will not pass the necessary testing for the service warranty to be issued..

This come raw or pre-patinaed. Really like the blue strap–though the brown looks a bit more subdued, which may be nice.  New CW bronze chronograph too.

@Dishelveled - that one has been around for a while.

This Chris Ward, however, is new:

Not as good a deal as the C60 though.

Thanks JD.  Think the Sept delivery date on the patinaed version threw me off, and def agree the C60 is the more desirable watch–May have to keep my eyes peeled for a discounted one!

I think that new one is much nicer looking, but it's also 3x - 4x the price, so there's that… I think the bronze C60 is a great deal for a bronze watch. The only thing that throws me off is the hour hand.

I've come to the conclusion that I'm not a fan of complications and I find the chronometer on this especially disturbing, probably because it's a relatively showy watch already. Luckily they do one without which I find very attractive indeed…

EDIT: Unfortunately another conclusion I've come to is that branding on the face can destroy the attraction of any watch for me and having a fifteen character name cluttering up the dial makes this entire brand a no-no.

I’ll add that it’s almost twice the price of the Hamilton Mechanical Field watch, which may now sail up as a new favourite given that I’vr decided that mechanical might be fun.

I have been eyeing Hamilton's myself but never realised they are owned by Swatch, hence the larger production and wider distribution now.

I'd definitely go mechanical too, though I've read a few reviews of faulty second hands after a few months of wear. I want to spend between £400 and £500 and don't want to make a mistake at that price
