      conservative, and relatively straightforward…

      So was John Major…

True, but I’m so Boris Johnson otherwise that I need a bit of Major for balance.

Does the Tissot have a grey face like Major too? I prefer a black face on my watches…maybe I'm more Diane Abbott in taste than John Major

Hahaha. I had never heard of Hamilton watches but I'm really liking some of the models I've seen. I can never justify over £600 for a timepiece (the of it being f'ed up by my little boy). They have some really well priced models though.

Some of us have to live in a world where £2000 watches are an absurd luxury . If that sort of money fell in my lap I'd used it to pay off some mortgage.

My Seiko does me pretty well, but if I save up I might look at a Hamilton.

It is such an irony that utilitarian work wear and accessories have become high end artefacts of desire.

Not too dissimilar a look from the Hamilton which I was also considering but this fulfills its intended purpose.

Modern work wear is actually still relatively inexpensive. Mechanical watches are old tech.

Old technology costs more. Most entry level beater cars I see stateside are not offered in manual shift anymore.

Japanese, European, and US high end denim brands generally are aesthetically 'work wear' but production values and label esteem push prices up beyond the average punter's acceptable/disposable price range.

Even common place brands such as Carhartt have their genuine construction work wear and high street fashion versions. Dickies is another, but more affordable case in point.

In the late 80s/early 90s in London I could pick up denim and work wear from the 50s and 60s reasonably. My mate had a stall in Camden Market. Then Japanese collectors and buyers visited her and wholesale bought everything she could source in her numerous trips to the US where she bought her stock. Within 2 years prices went through the roof. I had a Vietnam satin tour jacket that I just wish I still had now!

LL Bean is a brand I like for "beater wear". There's no "romance" or "dreaminess" to it, but they're plenty durable and have a good replacement policy if you set yourself on fire in it. Don't ask me how I know that.

Going back to watches, I'm very intrigued by the Seiko Presage Cocktail Time Starlight, SARY085. As usual for me, I'm late for the party and the watch is sold out. It would work well with denim, given the dial.

The Seiko JDM models are really the best values you can find in the market. I only have one, but it's more accurate than my COSC certified watches.

I wear it when I want to have something high quality but want to fly under the radar.

SARY085 is the JDM model. It's nowhere to be found. The int'l model is different but the watch is the same (different strap is all). I don't think the specs are different. I very well might get it.

Yes, I was trying to say, it's probably an excellent watch. 🙂

I just checked skywatches.com.sg for you, also sold out there. 😞 Bought from them a couple times, they're pretty good

It is associated with the Rolex GMT Master and is known as the Pepsi bezel for obvs reasons. The bezel represents 60 minutes of air time in the divers air canister so one half represents 30 minutes and the other half represents 30 minutes. I guess at a glance, depending on which colour segment you were in you could gauge whether you had 30-60 mins or 0-30 mins. If it was the latter then I suggest you would look at the numbers on the bezel to see exactly how many minutes of air you had remaining before you drowned [emoji106]

You are so correct @JDelage, my bad, as the GMT is an aviators watch so it is 24 hours not 60 minutes on the bezel. I had a GMT Master ll that now belongs to the wife so how could I forget. With the normal time, the 24 hour hand and the bezel an aviator is able to set 3 different time zones on the GMT / GMT ll. The dive time / 60 minutes bezel refers to the submariner and the sea dweller
