Operation "train the grape vines over the pergola" is a go

      Hoping for some summer shade

Successful in gaining shade but it's still hot as fuck this week (at least by Oregon standards)

Things may have gotten slightly out of hand....

Vines latched onto the cottonwood trees in the background a grew around 3/4 of the way to the top

Some hastily taken pictures of my native (to the California coast) tree orchard. Redwoods, Douglas Fir, and Madrones. Planted them three years ago and they've really been thriving. Just switched my irrigation from bubbler to drip and looking forward to helping that root network grow. Bonus picture of my latest addition - a young giant sequoia. They aren't native to the coast but will do just fine.

Got 3 plants out of pots and into the ground outside my office this weekend

          (From back to front)
          Blue spruce

Hybrid black white japanese pine that i wired for a few years to give some character

          Tiny juniper

The goal is to keep these fairly small and pruned with the pine likely getting a root prune and going back into shallow bonsai tray after fattening up for at least a couple more years in the ground

First female cone on my Wollemi Pine. Had male cones for years. Looking forward to getting some seeds for the first time.

Wow that’s a cracker! Strange there is no cones yet on it. You get male and female cones on the same tree. Mine is planted on its own.

                    Here’s a male cone -

The seeds go for crazy money online. They are still pretty rare.

I got this end of the summer last year and somehow I kept it alive. All winter forgot about it quite a bit. It was on my front porch.

Starting to bud so thought I would get it planted before it’s too late…

It’s about two years old (I guess) hopefully in 5 to 10 it’ll look similar to the two pictures I posted with more of the white/light leaves

Other than the initial landscaping around the house when we first bought it and renovated, I really haven’t added much in terms of new plants or trees. I’m fortunate the original owner was a horticulturist with a serious buying habit, kind of like some of you all with IH. 😜

I’d like to start bringing in a few things that complement what’s already here. It’s been cool seeing different species from around the world on some of these posts.

That said, I also know I may not be able to do everything I’d like. My first priority is always looking for plants that are drought tolerant since I don’t have irrigation and don’t plan on installing it. If I can still achieve a certain look while keeping things low maintenance and water conscious, that’s the goal.
