I was sorry to hear of Geo's passing. I never knew him, but reading through this thread, I know he was loved by everyone here.

This is a very sad news. My sincere condolences to all the family.
I had missed the postcards action this summer. Had written one last week which I intended to send this week. Now it feels so late and lazy. So sorry.

I'm not sure what to write, because nothing seems sufficient. I think I'll just go with something simple: you will be missed, Geo. Rest well, my friend.

Geo and I had a strange relationship. I never met the guy, but I was the first person he phoned up to tell me that his Cancer was terminal. He said that he found it easier telling someone he knew but didn't…...I spoke to him a lot until about 8 weeks ago when he basically lost the ability to talk coherently, he never whinged, he never moaned, he never complained, he never ranted. As you would expect I feigned complete indifference (though I knew that he knew that I was hurting inside), it just made it easier to talk matter of fact about his condition and keep emotion out of the conversation.
I am proud to have known Geo and I learned a lot from him and I quote him regularly. A part of him will be with me for ever.

I just learned of Geo's passing from DS this morning, I just can't find the words right now to express how
much I will miss him. We had so much fun here and I always hoped that we would meet in person someday.
To know he is no longer suffering with this cruel illness brings me some peace but I shall never stop missing
him here.

George my friend, you may no longer be with us but your spirt and energy will live on here and with us all forever. You were a kind, generous, and knowledgable soul with a wonderful heart. Please know that my thoughts have been with you and your family. And please keep everyone on their toes up there!

I just got home and saw this….. what awful news. Rest in peace Geo. Your positive attitude through the worst of times was an inspiration to me.

The funeral will be a very quiet affair. This was his wish. He always said to me that your life really only exists in the (hearts and) minds of others - and then death is only a change of state - so he never quite agreed with all the ceremony and fuss around funerals.
I have read the forum section where everyone has written about George. From the kindness and love shown I think I better understand why he said it was such a great place - please thank everyone for the beautiful messages.
I think something that sums up George was part of a discussion we had on why he wasn't frightened of dying - he said because no-one is frightened of dying, they are only frightened of going to hell. So obviously I asked him (he was always leading somewhere when you talked to him) if he believed he wasn't going to hell and he just said it wasn't that - he just wasn't all that bothered because he thought the devil had some good ideas but went about them in a stupid way, but then so did god!

I have decided that whenever I see Geo's name or type it myself here on the forum I will make it glow green. Please do the same to honor our fallen brother. RIP Geo!!!
