There are two famous sayings in Norway that parents use to get their kids out in inclement weather. They both rhyme in Norwegian (making them even more annoying) so loose a little in translation to English, but the jist is:

"Out on a trip, never miserable" (ut på tur aldri sur)

and

"There's no such thing as bad weather, only bad clothes" (det finnes ikke dårlig vær, bare dårlig klær).

Fuck them both. I have sworn never to say these to my children. If it's -2c and it's sleeting horizontal ice daggers then xbox for the win.

Years ago, My sister and I had a long conversation about things our parents said to us that we swore we would never say (and things that we were absolutely going to say).  Reminiscing about that stuff was mostly hilarious, and I'm sure my younger self be slightly horrified at how easily I've turned into my parents.

I'm sure my younger self be slightly horrified at how easily I've turned into my parents.

We all do to some extent. The big difference I've achieved is being home for dinner and bedtime 9/10 days. That's a vast improvement on my father who came home from work late on Friday and then left early on Sunday.

Here's one I can get behind:
