@Nick shoot i wouldnt be surprise if people skipped the movie altogether cuz most trailers are just synopses of the thing and people dont have the time lol
With this one in particular, it spoiled imagery. the giants, cyclops, settings, etc...i would have preferred if all these trials had surprised me in the same way the sirens and Circe did.
The hollywood machine is just crazy. They're so disconnected from reality. Its like now they only know what numbers tell them work. they have their formula.

Yeah. Social media generation too. Take for example what Marvel do. They have super snappy footage and then the logo and then the trailer. It's literally a trailer for a trailer. I dont listen to the radio but Capital here in London/UK also have a preview of a track (like the hook) before playing the track. Not always but when they want to let the people know 'oooh there's a banger coming up'.
Reality is, it's Capital, there are no bangers.
Digital life has trained people to have no attention span.

@WhiskeySandwich at first I thought he was going down the iMDB path of "What has he been in before?!" something my girlfriend loves to do, but that's usually at the start of the film.
I think 2 hours of attention was all he had in the tank!

The Odyssey was terrific. Of course they took some liberties with a story that has very odd moments for modern audiences, and of course it wasn’t a perfectly authentic lens into antiquity, but I thought it felt like what Homer wrote about and was just superb all around.

Saw it yesterday in IMAX with my son. 8/10 and I’m now deaf.
We both really liked it. I think the modern dialogue was distracting to me multiple times (subjective I know) The sound was incredible but the overall volume (IMAX maybe) was just too much. I thought Nolan did a great job thematically. And agree with many of you that the mystical scenes were the most powerful. I don’t know if it’s possible anymore to make a movie of this scale with actors that “disappear” into characters, but I did enjoy most of the performances. I felt like I needed a quiet closet to decompress in after the show, probably Nolan’s intention.

@endo it did…and it bothered me that Telemachus called his mother and father “mom” and “dad” …just seemed out of place. And I’m still debating with myself about the ending. I felt like Nolan took square aim at the horrible by-products of toxic masculinity throughout the film then kind of abandoned that in the final action scene. Still thinking about it though…no denying the experience overall was very powerful.

You are undoubtedly right about that.
I also like the point about toxic masculinity. That struck me in the Circe scene; viewed through that lens, she’s actually in the right—she’s simply protecting herself. In the end, though, it seemed to me that Nolan was focusing too much on Odysseus making peace with his fallen men and the whole Bronze Age collapse aspect.
Still, any film that occupies your thoughts to that extent has certainly achieved something significant.

La Faro I think really brought something new to jazz bass. Utterly tragic it was cut short and it seemed to really haunt Evans. Can’t wait for that one.

I mean if we’re going to get hung up on white teeth we should probably also get hung up on trans, Desi, black, and Latino actors being portrayed as Greeks, no? Why is realism so important anyway? Especially for a 3,000 year old myth with clearly impossible actors and events throughout?

The teeth and dialogue are more of an issue because they're part of how the characters are actually presented within the world of the film. Really modern-looking dentistry and grooming stand out when everything around them looks ancient and realistic. At least to me, the race of an actor is far less relevant - and whether an actor is trans is even less relevant.
Yea, realism isn't inherently important. But Nolan clearly goes out of his way to establish realism throughout the film, which is why the modern details stand out a little. Anyway, very good film, these are just small things!
