Instep should be snug on top of the foot similar to how you like to adjust laces on a boot. Heel should be loose and not touch the back so the foot lifts at the heel when walking when new. Toes need room just like any other shoe. This should make for a boot that takes some effort to pull on with a good solid pop when the foot gets past the boot throat. Imo nothing should be painful.

@pechelman I can dig it. Thank you. Sounds very much like fitting a pair of cowboy boots.

The rule of thumb for me on Wesco Engineer boots is half down from Brannock(I’m a 11.5 D) up a width or true to size D width.

          I mostly have 11E, but I have a handful of 11.5D.

If given the choice, I prefer the 11 E as they seem to fit just a little bit better in the toe area.

The most important thing of all this is to be properly Brannocked. I don’t know how people wear a full size down. I physically could not get my foot in a 10.5 I’ve tried with Wesco and different makers. But I guess I could see somebody with a super low volume foot might be able to do it “comfortably”

Edit: you should be able to get your foot in with relatively little effort. I don’t have the same thunk like I do when I’m wearing something like my unsung engineers or when I used to have Lofgrens. I think that’s just a pattern thing not fit. A bootjack to remove or using my other foot is necessary.

@northsouthdenimguy Thank you. That tracks with what I've heard. Reading some others' ideas on fit had me spooled for a minute.

Funny, you mention a bootjack; that's a mainstay of mine. I love it.

@Bobcat-Sig I never had any trouble with getting into my Wesco Engineers from the start. Had a bit of heelslip that got less with wear, some times I felt they got looser and I adjusted the straps. My wescos are the IH Germany roughouts, size 10E, I wear 10 in Red Wing Moc Toes and they are roomier without being sloppy.

Last night’s brown CXL horsebutt, tonight natural CXL “bubble” toe

I guess I don’t have to tell anyone here, but my Wesco engineers are my favorites out of any brands I currently own or have owned in the past. There’s just something about the leather, the silhouette, everything about them. To me, they just look the best.

@northsouthdenimguy man those bubble toe natural I want so bad. Are they the ship john release from awhile back? I’m still mad at myself for not grabbing them

Yup SJ. Surprised I was able to get a pair. I usually like a flatter toe but these look really good.

I almost bought those but couldn’t justify with already having Brown CXL and Brown horsebutt. Share some pics when you get them, looking forward to seeing them.
