Wow, thanks for sharing that - the toes do look "mushy" and they are brand new.

And good Lord, I just checked, and mine were listed as 7 lbs!  Cant wait to see those babies.  Tuesday will be here in no time.

White's does not generally like to do a soft toe in bullhide since its so soft it collapses almost immediately, and he thought I'd like this better.

          He's right…

The entire issue could have been avoided if Baker's had called/emailed you before building your boot, or even before shipping, or even by including a note letting you know. Whilst sensible, it's not a great demonstration of customer service.

That being said… if lace to toe soft toe is a bad idea I hope they change my order.  🙂

Given how the break over on a boot like that is pushed toward the toe, it might actually accentuate the problem.

If its a thicker heavier leather you should be OK.  I've never seen a pic. of a soft toe lace to toe boot.  It's just so hard to tell with custom boots, you never truly know what it will be like until you open that box.  Here is another soft toe Smoke Jumper, obviously thicker leather than bullhide.

Can anyone speak to the advantages of a Smoke Jumper versus Bounty Hunter and vice versa (ie: standard last vs semi dress)? I'm sure the differences are minimal and subjective at best, but I'm having a tough time deciding which to get. From my understanding the main thing is more room above the toe box etc. on SJ's.
                              Example:
                              Smoke Jumper: http://store.whw.jp/?pid=41993162
                              Bounty Hunter: http://store.whw.jp/?pid=47912275

I'm leaning towards straight up Smoke Jumpers on a 6 inch height, much like the first pair in black above. However why the popularity towards Bounty Hunters? Is it just the cleaner lines, slimmer profile? Sorry, I know this question gets asked a lot 😉

^Yes, cleaner lines and slimmer profile.  It is by no means a slim profile, but a little more adaptable to non-firefighting situations.  You'll love either though.

Thanks tigerpac, I tend to like the fuller/more "bulbous" look of the SJ's and the build on the Warehouse site I linked to is increasingly becoming my "grail" pair (heck, they ARE my grail pair). It should help round out my collection too as I have Farmer Rancher's with a flatter soft toe. Just need the 6 inch SJs, a pair of SD's and Roughout SJ's and I'll be content… 😉

IIRC there is a picture diagram with the shape/features of all the Whites lasts. Anyone know where I can find it? Poked around with no success.

I've seen that before too, but can't recall where.

I have SD/BH, 461 and SJ, and the biggest difference is the SJ is more square.  I mean they are all clearly work boots but I guess you could say the SJ looks more like a construction boot (or of course a fire-fighter's boot) vs. something you'd see on a farm.

My Uncle was a farmer before he passed and he always wore Knapp boots which are very similar to the BH.  He always had two pairs, one for work and one for "dress" - only shoes I ever recall seeing him wear.  When the "work" pair wore out he'd buy a new pair and those would become his dress boots.
