Why the choice for E width on so many pairs?

Good question. A few reasons really. It's White's most popular width, I've sometimes found a D to be a bit on the tighter side with some US brands and I thought that a lot of people will be wanting to wear them with thick socks maybe, plus they look a bit more rugged.

To be fair though I cant really see or feel that much difference between the D & E that I've got so?…

            Too much information? ; )

            Cheers.

Nice selection of boots Jamie, but I notice that they all share a (lowered) block heel - do you have any with the standard angled heel?

I was told by Kyle at Bakers that the difference between an A and a C is .25 of an inch.

That said, I have found White's to be on the roomy side

There is definitely a difference.  I have C and D width SDs and D width SJ.  I have to wear thick socks with the SD D and can wear either with the C.  I can't wear thick socks at all with the SJ D.  I think it's partly due to the higher arch of the SJ.

Well, I was always under the impression that the whole point of the measuring procedure White's has you go through  is to fit you to the right size.
