          What model was that?

We loved our Hyundai and never had any problems with it (until it got broadsided by a minivan).

              2002 Hyundai Accent.

They had recalls on the 2001 Accent and Santa Fe (my parents bought 3 hyundais back then, one for each of us) subframe, etc because of rust, but claimed that the 2002 was fine, but it damn well wasn't.  Only 100,000 miles on that car.  The tow guy said it should have been recalled like the others and that a 10 year old frame should never have the much rust.

Anyway, it is headed to the scrap heap.  The thing is not worth another $1000.  Unfortunately, the tires where only 1 year old, and the exhaust only 2 months old.  Whatever.  Just glad it happened on a back road near my house.

Wow, that sucks.  Ours was an '06 Elantra.  70k miles and no issues whatsoever.  Rust isn't a problem in Texas, though, so maybe it would have fared differently up north.

Nissan Sentras are awesome.  So are Subaru Outbacks.:)

Yea, I have been considering a Subaru Forester for about 2 years now….my mom just got Nissan Rogue (really it was my choice for her), so you and have got some very similar thinking going on Chris.

That said, I am just going to go carless until at least next year.  Considering my situation, I can't really commit to buying a car in Canada nor one in the Pennsylvania because I am not sure if I am staying in my current location at least semi permanently.

Plus, living about 2 miles from work, I think the responsible thing to start doing is bike/run once the nice weather comes around.  My wife can drop me off until then.  And, it will be nice to no longer have to worry about cleaning the ice off my car in the morning.

thomasnunnally, luckily no one was hurt.  Bike/run is a good option when the weather is good.  But if you have to wear a suit and do that in the summer heat (read humid) in Ottawa, that's another headache!

Haha yea, but I am lucky because the building of my office has a free gym and locker room.  So, it may just be forced healthier living….

That car was cheap as hell when I got it new 11 years ago.  I think $8400 brand new, so 11 years plus minimal work in the meantime.  The car was worth the price, but the wheel coming off like that is a bit shit.  And the 95-97's have a known problem with control arms rusting and breaking, with a recall, and I just don't think they ever fixed the rust problem.  My dad's car was scrapped because the subframe rusted, my mom's car was traded in because it would pass inspection because the front end was completely rusted underneath, and mine broke because the control arm rusted through (the other side is rusted as well).  So, I just wish they would admit it was their fault and a poor design.

So, I have two front doors on my house. Well, one of them is sort of off to the side, but it's by the driveway and easily accessible when going to and from the car. This "side" front door is our main access to the house, and all of our friends know that as well. We have dubbed our two doors the "friend door" and the "foe door."  Today, before noon, on two separate occasions, someone knocked on the "foe door." Stop bothering me with your sales pitch about your religious beliefs or your door-to-door frozen meats or gutter cleaning service. Your door knocks are being screened. Also, stop knocking like the police. It's much less friendly sounding, and I really don't feel like answering when you knock like an obnoxious asshole.
