UPS arrived 2 minutes after I walked through my front door, so here are some quick pre-soak fit pics.

What do you guys think?  I'm thinking pretty much bang on the money (size 33)…

And a final one to try and show the room at the waist.  Pretty generous right now, but post-soak with a belt should be snugger…

GM, I think it depends what kind of fit you're after.  Those look like a straight, relaxed fit - I think even after a soak and stretching back out they will retain that feel for the most part.  You could size down if you wanted a slimmer fit I think.

Thanks for the feedback BK, I can definitely see where you're coming from.

It's the thigh & knee measurements that put me off the 32 slightly.  There's about half an inch difference between the 32 and 33 in both, so I'm wary of them being too tight across my cyclist's thighs (I'm not exactly Chris Hoy, but it is an issue!).  I already have the 555 cut in SBG to cater for the days when I fancy super-slim, so I'm aiming for the 666S to sit somewhere between these and the MBBs.

Wondering whether a hotter-than-usual soak of the 33 might be the way to go?

I'd double hot soak those and you'll be good. They will shrink a decent amount. My Vulcans were huge like that before I soaked them twice. Enjoy.

i was worried mine would shrink too much - so I was careful, even put piece of wood in the waist - but I found the waist really stretched out quickly - they eventually got to point they were falling off - I lost some length post-soak, but waist actually grew to be bigger than pre-soak. Anyway what I'm saying is don't worry so much about waist - you'll get stretch if you need it. Worry more about thigh. You can always wear a belt.

I tried on the IHS-666S 18 oz'ers in a size 31 this past weekend at Self Edge NYC and they fit perfectly - comfortably snug. Exactly how I would want them to fit after 6 months of wear.

What size do you think I should order? A 31 and warm soak? A 32 and hot soak? Perhaps another suggestion?

According to the IH website, these shrink and inch with the initial soak and stretch back to the tagged size with wear.

That guidance seems spot on to me. I have two pairs of 18s, Vulcans and Devils - both same tag size I wear in 21s - and both fit great. I'm no expert - you will hear from some - but to me the 18s don't seem to shrink much as you might think, and stretch out easily after soak/wash. Both my pairs had a little extra room pre-soak. So if they aren't skin tight and fit now, they should shrink some then stretch right back. To me it was nerve racking buying the 1st pair of raws, but now that i know how they behave and how to take care of them its not a big deal. Assuming you get the fit right you're gonna love this denim. Enjoy!

Damian… The issue with shrinkage is no matter which way you slice it... Unless you never let your jean touch water they will eventually shrink to their maximum potential. I think most would agree that the best way to approach this is too get a pair that will fit properly with all the shrinkage out of them keeping in mind that a touch of tightness is nothing to worry about because denim exhibits properties that permit an amount of stretch. This amount varies in relation to different fabrics so it is best to research your decision on the tendencies of the fabric you desire. I hope this helps.

My pair arrived today as well. Pre-soak fit was spot on. They're soaking right now and I can't wait to start wearing these until eternity tomorrow 😉

Now to just down a few beers while I wait 😛

Thanks for the advice everyone. Just a few more questions: What is the preferred method of doing the first soak? Super hot water, warm water or cold water? And for how long? Once the jeans are done soaking, should you just roll them into a ball, squeeze the water out and air dry?

It seems that a lot of people on this thread are determined to get the water as hot as possible in the initial soak and I'm not sure why.

Like jumping into the deep end of a cold pool, might as well get the shrinkage on with!

Definetly do not roll the jeans into a ball and squeeze the water out. If you must lay them flat sandwiched between towels and firmly press the towel to try to soak the water. Rolling them up and all that jazz is going to cause some pretty crazy unwanted creasing

i always do that. not a single problem so far…works best for getting as much water out as possible before hanging´em to dry!
