At a 50% off event, acquired an Orvis Big Bear flannel shirt, which is essentially a CPO, for the price of a cup of joe. Stateside folks should know of this storied brand.

A grail has landed. A Pfaff 545. This was on the production floor at Langlitz Leathers in Portland for 40 years….the lady who used to sew on it just retired and I learned that back in the day they’d give ‘stars’ to seamstresses who found errors before garments shipped. I feel like I picked up an important part of PDX history.

@scarfmace ha! I wasn't able to meet her, but her protege gave me a run down of the machine. I'm working my way thru projects with it - but I need to put a different motor to slow it down. The current set up is way above my paygrade.

@Inorganic can you put a variable motor speed control on the current motor? Some motors have the ability and cheaper than trying to find another motor.

@goosehd good question. The current setup is with a clutch motor: fast stitches ~1k-2k/min and with reasonable torque. I plan to remove that and in its place install what's called a 'servo motor' which has variable speed control, more torque and much much slower, down to 1stitch a second or less in some models. I was so surprised to see that all of the machines on the Langlitz floor were clutch (fast) motors, I wonder what set up Iron Heart has for their machines.
