Honestly, I think those two black boots are just about perfect boots to my mind.  Love the shape, the sole, the heel, the quality of leather, etc.  I was not wild about the pebble grain of the cordovan boot at first, but am warming to it.  Really bums me out that I couldn't make the pop-up in NY…  Of course, it also bums me out that I don't have an extra grand lying around, since the only thing more eye-popping than the boots themselves is the price-tag!

out-of-the-box the leather looked parched & dull.

…. so i gave it a "lift".  initially cleaned them w/Lexol leather cleaner,  then 1st coat,  Lexol conditioner

drying out after the 2nd coat, Sedgwick leather conditioner

2 days after treatment has sipped in & dry to touch.  'topped it off with a 3rd coat,  Obenauf LP.  i know some will disagee w/the conditioning overkill,  but i thought i'd give it a feast before hitting the road.  'started out really dark, but they've lighten up quite a bit after 5days of wear.

Well they are kinda but made just for him

had the arrows put on them for him.

                          Apparently:
The significance of the broad arrow is actually a symbol which was used by the British military; it could be found on various military items like boxes and guns, to helmuts and boots.

lol the arrows are kinda funny…is there a reason why the military etc. used to put arrows on everything? never heard off it...

and if those are made from olive nubuck, then I think I'm gonna love my new boots 🙂

It is also known as the Pusser's (from Purser) Mark.  It was used by the Royal Navy to identify things that belonged to them and hence the Purser could identify stuff that was stolen from him.  Our house was built by the Royal Navy in 1830.  There are Pusser's Marks all over the place.  All of the individual hinges are stamped with it, even some individual bricks and flagstones.  Here is the pavement outside our house….

I will look for more tonight….

Oh yeah, forgot to ask, is the rough-out water resistant/proof? I've got so many beige suede boots and am always a bit worried about getting them wet. Need me some truly weatherproof footwear this time round.
