well he´s talking about the color of the "wood" of the soles...in the pic BF has posted, it looks dark brown so he wants to switch it to a natural looking one, like this one:

it's always a matter of how you've sized your boots!…I can only wear thin-normal (TFA) socks with my 8.5 4HSxViberg service boots, but wearing the thickest socks I own, I can easily fit my size 9 IHVB-01 (more room in the toe section as the 4HS)...
so imo if you size correct and if the toe section allows it, you can even wear thicker socks with your boots!
