just a little question!
someone just sent me a pic of the outsole measurement of his viberg boot size 8.5

after the pic and his measuring skills, the outsole measures 12" exactly…now when measuring my boot (the exact same way, the exact same size) i come to a length of 12.8" which is almost an inch longer, even though it´s the same size!?
the inside measurements of the two boots (his ~28cm, mine ~28.5cm) are also different!anyone know why it is that way? just asking since it´s the exact same size in both boots (8.5)

Finn mate imho depending on style and how well worn the shoe already is, note that each fresh pair may differ in size too. The sole will break in and shape to the walking style of your foot after heavy wearing and makes every pair different.
I think i got almost one size sole "shrink" out of my engineer.

My 2cents worth buddy. Imo because they are handmade a slight diff is unevitable. They may have marked then with the size, like a 9UK/8UK, it may be half or whatever inch longer/shorter. Just like denim?
Like my scout marked as 9uk and measures almost 12.5 and yet my pull on viberg measures 12 exactly after few months wearing.
Am i making sense at all?

I'm a tiny tad drunk atm. so I'm not sure if this all makes sense to me
well the pair the guy measured are totally new and the sole on my 4HSxViberg pair isn't that used that it would make a difference of almost one inch.
the sole type is the exact same incl. the cats paw heel and all and since the (marked) boot size is the exact same, I really can't see the point why they measure different in length and all ???just doesn't make any sense at all!…

Finn, it has a lot to do with the last, the sole choice, the cut of the midsole, being hand lasted, etc.
The design of the 4 horseman boots you have I believe are meant to be longer and more pointed than say the scouts.
What boots are you comparing?

Viberg Boots are so lovely. 1950 Service, Boondockers, Scouts… Gonna visit Berlin sometime in (late)Summer and check out B&S and 14oz, maybe I´ll find some nice Vibergs

well i've measured my pair while being totally sober so my measurements are correct
I'm not gonna cop them though cuz of these sizing issues…I can't see myself spending 500-600USD on a pair of boots when the outsole measures 1inch less as the pair i own (which are on the snug side already!)...can't go any shorter than the pair I already own... -

Different lasts & different toe shapes = different dimensions. Also have to factor in the width of the welt, which can vary widely, especially with a hand welted boot. For those reasons, I've always considered external measurements to be largely worthless. Internal ones are going to be slightly better, but still likely to be misleading.
Bottom line- if they're both Viberg size 8.5, they're likely to fit similarly, since I haven't heard that Viberg has inconsistent sizing between lasts (like Alden, for instance).

Frost, I've already got the scout with the wedge sole, but would like that sole better. My plan is to wear the current sole, which gives me some variation in my lineup, then resole, like Urbs. G is taking orders for that build so you could follow the same plan, per se.

I'd really love a pair of the 4HS if anybody wants to go in on that build. I'd also probably consider hopping in on a solid engineer style too.
