@seawolf if you’re ok with a slightly more lighthearted and comedic series how about Terry Pratchett?

I had totally forgotten about her. Great recommendation. She also wrote The Lathe of Heaven. I would also recommend anything by Arthur C. Clarke.

@seawolf Have you ever read Stormlight Archive series by Brandon Sanderson?

I actually haven't read them yet... but I've been told great things by people that love sci-fi

If not that, I really enjoyed the Dark Tower series by King, think I've yet to start the 6th one yet...

                            • Another vote for Terry Pratchett, he's one of my favourite authors
                            • I'll +1 the Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey too
                            • Raymond Feist is another fantasy author I've red an entire series by and enjoyed
                            • Stephen Baxter - Proxima and Ultima. Two of the best books I've read in a while
                            • I've liked everything I've read by Joe Abercrombie, including the YA books, they work well for adult readers too

Although the themes fit what you like I'd steer clear of Terry Brooks and Stephen Donaldson, IMHO neither can write very well.

Seems like Pratchett can't be missed. I've just added Color of Magic to my amazon cart.

I'll look into the others. Thank you!

@tody Right on, I really enjoyed it! But I might be biased as there's not a King book I dislike.. (although I haven't read The Girl That Loved Tom Gordan which is meant to be terrible)

I still can't believe he's releasing new books year after year, and the man is always in denim!

                                    Enjoy man!

I’m currently reading this and I’m really enjoying it. If you’re a history/science/culture buff, this is right up your alley. It reads like a real life version of “A Canticle for Leibowitz”.

It was first published in 2011. I found it at a local book store. ( Yes, they still exist and they need your custom.)

I like the idea of "under the dome" it reminds me of The Simpsons movie, haha
