It actually was written as a condemnation of cheap blackmarket hand guns and laws that make them so, per Gary Rossington, when I had the opportunity to speak with him Ricky Medlock, and Johnny Van Zant, when I met them at a Florida steakhouse. Hence the absurdity of the line "so why don't we dump all the people, to the bottom of a sea. Before some ole fool come round here, wanna shoot either you or me"

I thought it was a anti gun song too, and it didn't jive why they would record it and a tune like "Gimme back my bullets" so I asked. That was his explanation almost to the word. Not my coolest experience with this band, but don't want to further derail.
