      Hey fellas
I'm looking for a pair of boots capable of dealing with the weather here in the French Alps. Anyone have some they can recommend? I'm looking at the Sorel Caribou at the moment but would like to here from all you fellow quality obssesed members of other makes/models that have been tried and tested.
      Thanks!

Check out the Baffin range of boots.

One of the places I have worked was the North Slope of Alaska, very snowy and very cold.  Baffin boots were issued and were superb!

Thanks for that DDTrash. I think I prefer the Sorel Caribou aesthetically to be honest but they're definitely worth considering. Anyone got any other suggestions?

I'm unsure of the model name, but I have a Merrell boot that is basically a hiking boot with a vulcanized rubber skin and Thinsulate lining. Maybe goretex too. I'll post more when I get home.

Sounds like I've got a similar Merrell to mclaincausey - know mine are Goretex. They aren't very tall, but I used them in the winter in Montreal and they were warm enough and waterproof enough.

Bit overkill for Toronto winter, as they're rated to -30c or something like that.

If you are in the French Alps then check out a store called "Au Vieux Campeur".

They have a good selection of winter boots in stock, plus the Sorel Caribou boots are currently discounted at -20%.

They have stores at the following locations, maybe one is close to you??

                Thonon Les Bains
                Sallanches
                Albertville
                Grenoble
                Chambery

Not anymore unfortunately but still a frequent visitor.

Used to live in Argentiere just up the valley from Chamonix.  Spent three winter seasons playing in the snow before having to grow up ( well a bit at least ) and get a proper job.

Au Vieux Campeur is one of the best stocked outdoor shops I have ever seen, lots of nice shiny kit to spend your hard earned on.

Also check out Cham3S website, another good outdoor stockist.
