There's nothing wrong with asking questions or making suggestions.  That's part of why the forum exists.  Giles has gotten a lot of good ideas from members floating random thoughts; we have a pretty extensive thread devoted to that, in fact.

Guys, I've just posted here for the first time today and worded my suggestion as graciously as I could, along with honest compliments of the quality of the garments. I meant absolutely zero offence, and wouldn't want to get a well loved jean altered. I was merely floating an idea for another member of the 1955 family. I read through maybe 40 threads here before posting a word, and I mentioned the idea as I'm far from the only person that needs a higher rear rise but doesn't desire a high front rise to go along with it. All the best. -Rick

And thanks for sticking up for me Chris, I wasn't expecting or intending to cause offense and was a bit taken aback by it. I hunted this jean down because of its high rear rise, I can't wear low or normal rise jeans without showing too much crack when I bend or sit, and ruin the stupid things. If anyone knows of any jean other than a custom made one that is made from heavy fabric and is tapered and has a roomy thigh and high rear rise, please tell me because I'll buy it…

@richardjohn22 welcome to the forum and thank you for doing your research before making your first post. I find it hard to believe that anyone would take any offense from your statement about a lower rise.  We are all after that "perfect" cut, and we all voice our opinions on what "we" (the consumers want).  I believe you found your perfect place to find your ideal pair of jeans, right here on the IHUK forum.

Since you found your way to the 1955S thread, I take it you appreciate the "vintage" cuts like a lot of us "denim aficionados" do - it's what brings us to looking for the "finer" products such as Iron Heart. Along with a lot of vintage style cuts, the tendency to find a higher rise is fairly common. The 1947 and 1955 (from nearly all companies) models (based on the original Levis 501's from said years) both feature this higher rise. in 1966, the rise was brought lower to meet demand of the consumers, with the '66 cut being one of the most popular versions of the 501 that have been tweaked by denim companies in japan (and stateside) since the Osaka boom in the late 80s-early 90s.

If you are looking to keep the vintage aesthetic while looking for a lower rise, the Iron Heart 634 is a great option. It is a "modified" '66 cut and features the lower rise as well as a more mellow taper from the knee to the leg opening - which was common in the era.  If you are looking for a bit more taper than the 634 model, the Self Edge exclusive 633 model features the familiar mid-rise of the 634, with a more drastic taper, similar to what is found in the 1955s model. I also feel that the IHxB01 and the IH-666 could be an option for you as long as the thighs work for ya!

I hope this might help you on your journey, and let us know which Iron heart model you decide to get. Looking forward to the fit pics!

@richardjohn22 I would second @Appfaff 's suggestion of checking out the IHxB01's, the rise isn't quite as high as the 1955s and it's made from the same denim. The thighs are a bit slimmer, though, although not as slim as the true slim cuts like the 666 and 555. Also, in a size 36, the waist will stretch 2" if you need it, my IHxB01 in size 33 stretched that much pretty quickly.

Thanks for the suggestions, buddy, this was the first pair of jeans I tried on today.  They were a bit too tight, though… if they measured the same as the old runs of B01s they would have fit great, but the thighs and butt have contracted considerably.  It was the 1955s or nothing if I wanted a nicely fitted pair of Iron Hearts it turned out... now I just have to get used to the high rise on the front, and increase finger strength to do up that tight top button!!  🙂

Minus time spent in bed, I've worn these for the last 24 hours… and I'm already used to the high front rise! hahaha. So much for that being a problem! I was genuinely worried during the first couple of hours I spent sitting at my desk that it would be an issue I may never overcome. So much for that concern once the fabric gave a little.

Really lovely jeans to wear, and so comfortable to be in.  I like the attention to details, like on the inside of the crotch where the seams meet- this could be a problem area with such thick fabric, but it's been cut and engineered in a very clever way and feels rounded and soft.

Will sort out some fit pics later- they fit my thick legs very well.

                                Thanks!!

EDIT: Found it but how do you place an order?? Can someone please explain how the shop works; is it tel. orders only?

For whatever reason their flagship stores carry more Iron Heart stock than their centralised inventory suggests, which I discovered to my joy this week after visiting three different stores, so if the emailed answer comes back as a "no" you could always use Skype to ring their Central World branch (the biggest I've visited so far) to check with them. Hope that helps!

Been wearing my pair quite a bit the last few weeks, but have been doing some serious dieting on a "cut" phase since January, and the fit doesn't look quite so sharp now I've shed about 20lbs.  But today begins the next "bulk" phase and back to the heavy weights, so I'll fix that.  I also got them professionally hemmed by Pronto at no cost on a Union Special- they did a perfect job.  Took the inseam from 37 to 33.5, which gives me the option of stacking on a boot with no cuff, or having a medium single cuff, or double cuff with very flat shoes.

I really love the fabric of the jeans and all the details, and even though it's comfortable to wear (really comfy), the high front rise is a total bugger.  Aesthetics aside it is impractical if you use your front pockets for your wallet and phone- as the pockets come up higher on the hips it is a pain to get anything in and out of them, and if you have these items in your pockets when you try to bend to put socks on or something you realise you cannot bend at the hips and have to empty your pockets and try again- the items are pressed up against your hip rather than on your thigh. An extra inch of pocket length would solve the problem of movement when loaded up with a medium sized phone and wallet.

Aesthetically I don't like the high front either- this doesn't matter if you wear a long top and it covers the front, I knew I'd never tuck anything in to them.  But for my frame- big strong ass specifically- the shape doesn't suit me well.  To make the cloth hang flat at the front I'd have to basically wedgie myself to pull them high enough.  As it is I end up with a lot of spare fabric bunching up in the crotch creating the 'diaper crotch/crotch bulge' look, especially when walking. Perhaps more prominent with the anti fit as the hips are particularly wide for a 36 waist.  It was not evident when I first bought them while the material was very rigid in the fly area.

Maybe the silly looking crotch bulge will diminish as the fabric wears in more and I go back to my regular 225lbs weight.  Anyone else with these experience the crotch bulge issue?  I'm wondering if starching or ironing the flies all the time might help?  Is this more common with the heavy fabric?  Cheers lads.

Just the one issue in terms of appearance, the bunching of excess crotch fabric- I'll try to find time to post a pic shortly. They're such awesome jeans otherwise- but I am kicking myself I didn't man up and go all out with the 25oz IH-634-XHS, which is the only other jean IH sell that fits me.

slow & steady wins the race @richardjohn22 .  in my limited experience I've found heavier denim almost always looks weird/off until it settles down.  21oz denim is a great gateway because it gets you used to the heavier weight without being restrictive or uncomfortable.

Your crotch issue would have possibly been worse with heavier denim . . . but then again that 634 cut is golden for a lot of folks & that 25oz denim wears in so nice, hahahahaha

By the way, the 634 "cut" is massively variable in 36 waist, same silhouette basically, but the XHS is far roomier and big rear rise. Some of them I couldn't even pull up over my legs in the shop! haha. Considerable variation.
