The Self Edge Passion #1 - Coffee

All of our employees and managers across our three stores have many passions in common. One of those is coffee.
We love the idea behind the process and ritual behind the making and drinking of an espresso or coffee of any kind.
There is a coffee outfit in New York City by the name of The Coffee Foundry which we've been quite impressed by.

Run by two guys from Brooklyn, they roast beans in their back yard then serve their coffee in multiple variations from espresso to single cup pour-overs in their West Village cafe. We don't just love them because they wear our jeans, they make some of the most soulful coffee you've ever tasted.
From single plantation beans to timing your every espresso pull, this is what coffee is and these guys Do It Street.

i must admit when i first saw this advertised on se i thought wtf but then one day while i was taking my mom out she suggested we get coffee, something we havent done in years. this being the perfect excuse to try this place out; i suggested it and we went. and i must say the san ignacio slow drip that they have there is without a drop some of the best coffee ive had in years. definitely going back to get another cup when i am around the area.

single origin coffees are real good but idk if they're enough to warrant the price if you're not extracting via espresso…

I've just swapped my Gaggia Coffee for a Citiz Nesspresso pod machiene. I just can't be doing with the mess and time involved with the Gaggia. I'm acctually quite surprised how close in quality the Nesspresso coffee is to what comes out of the Gaggia, its not quite as good but darn close!

If anyone in the UK wants to make me an offer a well used but good Gaggia Coffee , PM me.

i wish i had money to drop on a la mazzorco custom…. use em at work, love em.
tbh sometimes i question why i work so hard to make good espresso when i love chemex pourover just as much...

I would absolutely love to find a La Marzocco Linea single group and rebuild it.  Also Synessos and Speedsters are beautiful machines… maybe one day.

Best coffee I ever had was in Paris. OMFG ! Pure ecstacy with every sip. Something that comes almost close (but not quite) to Paris is this place : Philz, based in San Francisco, CA but with other Bay Area locations :

                                    http://www.philzcoffee.com/

Starbucks tastes like dishwater in comparison.

Philz is awesome - some of the best coffee I've had ($10/cup, but their Jamaican Blue Mtn. is incredible. Their Mocha Tesora is my other favorite). Another good place in SF is Ritual. Saw this in an earlier post, but when in NYC Cafe Grumpy is a must (for coffee) and Gitane for a latte. This morning I used my chemex, which produces a super clean cup - highly recommend this method if you like a strong cup, but don't like the sludge that comes with a French press.

Bodum makes a good press and it's easy to get replacement parts if you need them. There are some other, more expensive brands, but I don't think the price is really justified.
