@Anesthetist I don't think that the Accutron is comparable to the Spring Drive either! Grand Seiko do some very nice pieces, their new GMT looks awesome.

Felix (formerly of Time and Tide) reckoned that the Defy Inventor gave him a headache from the oscillator vibrating so quickly. That might be another reason to skip one.

My favorite Grand Seiko is the 231: hand wound, no date.  My only "complaint" is that at 37.3mm it's a bit large.  If this were closer to the 30mm Calatrava 96 it'd be as perfect as the 25oz 634S.

@Graeme  My thoughts also.  Considering that the Sea-Dweller has been updated 3 times in the last 10 years lends one to think that the Submariner is overdue.

Rolex are moving onto the 32xx series of movements, so I'd guess that it's the Submariner's turn this year. The Explorer and Milgauss are also overdue, but 2021 is the Explorer 2's fiftieth anniversary, so that might be next year.

Of course, the odds of scoring any of these at RRP is slim…

Funny story: I purchased my first Rolex (Sea-dweller) from a Jeweller about 7 years ago.  The sales person was telling me about how they can rebuild the watch in situations such as your's.  I was new to this and asked how she knew, and she gave me the backstory.

Apparently, she caught her then boyfriend cheating on her.  She took his prized possession (Rolex) and smashed the hell out of it with a hammer.  I guess he sent the Rolex (what was left of it) back to the service centre for repair, and they returned a practically new watch.

Rolex have just announced the shiny, new Submariner. No doubt it'll be available soon at your local grey market dealer at twice RRP. 😃

The case size has been bumped up to 41 mm, which has got Hodinkee readers reaching for the pitchforks to storm Rolex's HQ; the lugs have been slimmed down; and the movement is upgraded to the 3230 / 3235.

They Oyster Perpetual has also gained a couple of new 41 mm models, again with the new 3230 movement. I quite like the silver dial version.

The most interesting models are the new Oyster Perpetual 36s with the bright coloured dials. The news sites have been too focused on the Submariner to pay any attention to these.
