@Chris Thanks, but I was wondering if Rolex does change the movement in the Submariner, does the old stock/inventory get discounted?

I agree that it doesn’t sound like something Rolex would do, but you can always hope.

@louisbosco How are you enjoying the rubber strap on your GMT?

@goosehd from what I understand, getting a Submariner right now is difficult. I doubt that there is much stock left to discount.

My guess is that Rolex are going to upgrade several watches to the 32xx series of movements, and that there might be redesigns of a few models. I'd expect the Oysterflex bracelet / strap to turn up on a few more pieces.

          The rumours seem to be:

          • A Submariner with slimmer lugs.

          • An Explorer 2 with a ceramic bezel.

          • A GMT in steel with a Coke or Pepsi ceramic bezel, or a rootbeer in two tone.

These seem to recur every year. 😛

Monochrome Watches and Rolex Passion Report have published their predictions, which largely consist of the above.

This is Monochrome's rendering of a potential Submariner. (The watch of the left is the current model, the one on the right is their concept.)

But I prefer their Polar Explorer.

The new Omega Railmaster has arrived Down Under. It's a really nice looking piece. They're about two thirds of the price of the limited edition, but have similar specs, and better water resistance.

Here it is on the bracelet.

The grey dial looks better in photos than in the metal. I think that it's a bit less clear than the black.

The other thing I found was a Bulgari Finissimo Skeleton. This is about 50% more than the solid version, but looks so much better.

I prefer the Finissimo on the bracelet to the strap, which is unusual for me. I don't know if the Skeleton is available in that configuration, though.

Since (almost) everyone here has a thing about Rolex, here's an article about one being disassembled.

The Naked Watchmaker is run by Peter Speake-Marin, who founded Speake-Marin, though he's no longer involved. There are some interesting articles there.

@goosehd yeah. very well thanks. i don't mind the weird tilt of the watch. through the day, i barely notice it at all. it's only when you stop and look at it on purpose that you'll know it's there.. but otherwise, it's all good!

Apparently it's a thing. The Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Black Black uses it.

At night it looks like this.

I didn't know it existed either. However, I couldn't see Rolex doing something like this, as they tend to be on the conservative side.

The trouble with writing for Hodinkee is that I'd probably make fun of the vintage obsession, fixation on small watches, and Ben Clymer's dress sense. I'd probably not last long. 😛

Ben Clymer's background was as a project manager at UBS until Hodinkee took off, and whilst that's likely to pay well, it's not going to be enough to make someone rich. He does seem to lead an enviable lifestyle, having a decent watch collection, and a vintage 911, so he's doing something right. 🙂

Hodinkee raised $3.6 million when they merged with Watchville in 2015, but other than that it'll be down to work for hire, advertising, and selling through their shop.

Clymer was a project manager, so probably not making the hundreds of thousands or millions in bonuses that traders and dealmakers would.

That said, I think that most of these watch blogs run on content paid for by the manufacturers.
