I actually prefer the Ladoire to the Fifty Fathoms. A London shop had one in for 75% off at an invitation-only sale. I was very tempted.

      That movement looks fantastic.

        If you're after a non-traditional watch…

It's the Bulgari Gérald Genta Gefica. There's an old write-up at aBlogToWatch.

Genta was the designer responsible for the IWC Ingenieur, Audemars Piguet Royal Oak and Patek Nautilus. This was developed under his own watch brand, which was acquired by Bulgari in 1999.

I suspect that @Giles won't like it. I'm not 100% sure about it myself, but it strongly appeals because it's so different, and I've got a bronze case fetish going on right now. Apparently there might still be a few new old stock pieces floating around…

I'd like to see how the Bulgari wears. It's quite a bit watch, but I'm used to wearing a 44 mm piece on a daily basis, so it might not be a problem.

aBlogToWatch has a piece up about Bremont. @GingerMagician might be interested in reading it.

@madmonday my father is always telling me how expensive mechanical watches won't keep time as well as a cheap Timex. So @Tempvs is doing you a favour by not sharing any of his collection. 😉

I thought that the Spring Drives were a bit worse than quartz movements, something like a couple of seconds a week, rather than per month.

I appreciate the Grand Seiko quartz watches for their insane accuracy. I'm a little tempted by this one.

I guess you know that because you use your other one to check the accuracy of that one….

Thanks for the heads-up, @Graeme - will take a look.

I'm not a hugely invested in the Bremont brand per se (though they do make very good watches that are decent value if picked up second hand), it's just that the two I own were the incumbents when I got tired of the constant flipping! 😄

If anyone's interested in avant garde haute horologie, Bulgari still have a few examples of the Gefica in stock.

It comes in two models, the Bi-Retro (on the left), which has a retrograde calendar, and the moonphase / GMT (on the right), which I discussed in the previous post.

Both have a 47mm bronze case, 100 metres water resistance, and a crocodile strap.

The local Bulgari boutique is offering a 15% discount on these without even asking. Given they're a discontinued model for around 2010 or 2011, and obviously didn't sell well (the Bi-Retro was a limited edition of 199), I think that there's scope for them to be a bit lot more generous. 😉

The original Gérald Genta editions of the watch were more adventurous with colour, and there's an Art Deco charm to the numbers. I like the white version, and there's one for sale on Chrono24 at the moment.
