I respect your enthusiasm and knowledge, Graeme.  I also think you have a great, quirky aesthetic sense.  So if you like GS quartz watches, I say go with it.  You could hardly find quartz watches more worthy of respect, that's for certain.

Anyone here ever messed with Zenith watches? I could see the Elite Captain Central Second appealing to those who dig Grand Seiko. I'm a big fan of the El Primero Striking 10th as well.

A recent purchase of mine: vintage Tudor Sub with faded "ghost bezel" (bought from original owner with papers  😉 )

Thx for the inspiration for this nice watch @Finn666  😉

Hodinkee have got a guide to watches below $5000 that their staff would go for.

Me, I'd be tempted by a 1953 Omega RAF watch. They go for around $2000 to $3000, and I'd use the balance to get it restored at Bienne.

                                  Anyone else have any ideas?

Yep,  I have spoken to Richard my Watch man about the Grand Seiko Spring drive Ti Diver.  Now, Richard knows a thing or two about watches, owning 300 at the last count - and I'm not talking Swatches here .  Some of you will know Richard, so you will be able to imagine him saying "Now that's a proper. proper watch"…..

I have now, but I favour the Ti version as it is so much lighter….And Ti self heals (at least to some degree).....

I prefer titanium too for much the same reason, though I think that it can be a bit softer than steel.

Seiko use a proprietary Ti alloy called "Bright Titanium" which is harder than "ordinary" Titanium and has a brighter, more steel like appearance….
