    @Kathrynnaomi:

    I'm waiting for this pair to bed in a bit (only worn them for 5 days!) They fitted comfortably right out the bag but this makes me think they may end up looser than I normally wear. Matt from IH warned me about this but I was too impatient to wait as I really needed some new jeans! In other people's experience how long does this denim take to sort of calm down and find its shape?
    Cheers

    Mine took precisely one drunken midnight walk from one country pub in one village to the pub in the next village.

      It's the 21oz. My first pair if IH were 21oz 301's. They were bought in SENY on holiday. I walked around Manhattan for two days in them and the minute I got home to Norway I ordered 555's in the next size down. The waist on the 301's stretched 2.5 inches in the end. They are now my gardening/post xmas dinner pants. Great fades though.

      Long story short, 21oz needs to be snug out of the bag.

        Are you a true 36 or did you need some stretch from it? I need a size 38 and want a small bit of stretch up top, but don't want it to look sloppy. No diaper butt.

        @neph93:

        No probs. I too like the heavy duty compound lifts. Be careful if you're comparing 301 measurements from SE with 555 measurements from IHUK. They measure differently. 301's are defo more roomy in the top block. A bit too roomy imho and I have a fat ass.

          If you want to avoid diaper butt go for the 555. Seriously, I've heard/read more stories of diaper butt from owners of 301's than any other jean. To answer your question I always buy 21oz small. It stretches.

                Worn these beautiful jeans for a month now and they fitted me right out the bag so I was a bit worried they might get too big. However I've worn a belt from day one and the denim has moulded to be a really great fit. There is a lot to be said for not squeezing in to jeans that are uncomfortably small and letting them settle naturally and without undue force!!

                      You can get some more if you're willing to tolerate some initial discomfort. Be careful with the thigh though. That will not stretch more than .5"

                        thanks ideally i don't want them to stretch more than 34"

                          Right. An inch is normal, you can get more if you need it, that is to say if they are still tight after the first inch or if you're in the habit of climbing mountains in your jeans.

                            Does not wearing a belt when new allow these jeans to stretch in the waist, hip and thighs quickly??

                              More than not, yes… (well, in the waist, aint going to make any difference to the hips or thighs)...

                                Thanks Giles but how much more will I get then in the hip and thigh area by way of stretch if I wear these for the next month or so?

                                      I was thinking about this last night.  It probably could be scientifically measured, but we'd have to include variables as arcane as:  How humid was it in the mill the day the denim was woven, what is the average staple length of the cotton used in the yarns, when was the loom last serviced etc etc etc.  So basically, it aint science….

                                      All I can say for definite is you'll get some stretch.....

                                        For what it's worth, I have yet to encounter another brand that is as meticulous in detailing the measurements and prospective evolution of their garments.  This demonstrates pride in the craftsmanship, knowledge of the product, and respect for the customer.  I am often dumbstruck at some of the other brand's/web shops' apparent apathy in this department; and sometimes customers take this for granted, or fail to understand the consideration.

                                        This is merely an observation, and not a slight against a particular person or group.  I think we all appreciate the opportunity to ask questions, and receive thoughtful responses from people with first-hand knowledge.  I know I have freely exercised this privilege since my first day on the IHF.
