      Hello,

I have been experimenting with IH jeans for a year plus now. THe 666 cut is hands down the best cut for me.

The ONLY downside is I would like a little higher rise for when I am hiking, fishing, or just doing physical outdoor stuff in general.

Right now I have been wearing a pair of 555s that work great for outdoors (higher rise) but I really don't like the silhouette of this cut (I shouldn't care as I'm out in the wild but life is short and I want to wear jeans I love lol).

I am debating sizing up a pair of 666s. I am wearing the 35 below in the middle and was thinking of going with a pair on the right or left. Which one would give more functional rise?

I have been thinking of trying the 888s but that is a pretty BIG jump up and my pants eventually just seem to sag down to my hip bones (I have a non traditional shaped waist area lol).

My perfect jeans would be 666s with an inch more rise 🙂

@goosehd has the best advice as above.

FWIW and only my opinion, sizing up won’t give your the room you’re looking for. I’d be inclined to try another cut with a higher rise.

@Brandrea any opinions on which one? The 634 looks about the same as the 666 and the 888 is a big jump.

The middle ground is the 555 but the rest of the cut is a pretty drastic change.

I'm not sure there is a good compromise.

I generally look at waist and thigh measurements when buying 666s or 634s. I don’t think I’ve ever paid much attention to the rise, but in my experience, a size 38 in the 634 feels like it has a slightly higher rise than a size 38 in the 666, regardless of what the actual measurements say.

Sometimes I think measurements, whether it’s jeans or shirts, don’t always tell the whole story about how something actually fits and feels. Obviously, none of this helps you one bit, but that’s just been my personal experience. 😂

there are some slight differences in each run but also between denim weights within each family of cut, so it's important to look at the size charts carefully. E.g. the measurements of the 634-19L seem to always come up with a much lower rise than 634-18's. I havent looked too closely at 666's, which is strange, since 75% of my jeans are those, but I would suspect some similar trends. As someone else who loves the 666 cut, you might do ok with a pair of 634s-18's, but the other couple pair of 634's i have (21OD and XHSMB) have a noticeably lower rise. I have a couple of sized up 666's as well, but those are specifically because the waist came in smaller and/or that fabric has limited stretch, such as duck. You might find that going a size up just for rise alone wont work out since itll fit poorly on your waist/hips and may also give you a bit of poopy pants look unless you also end up tailoring them.

Honestly, I can’t advise you but I can give you my experience with the 666 vs the 634 cut …

You mentioned your goal is to have a little more wiggle room when you’re bending etc (if I’m reading you correctly). I’m not sure if the rise alone really plays into that as much as the entire top block. I own 3 pair of 666 and 5 pairs of 634’s in various weights and types of demin and from my experience the 634 are way roomier and provide for that wiggle room you are looking for. They are the Goldilocks cut for me.

The one exception are my 666 slub … they “feel” much roomier in the top block than the 21 oz or 14oz denim in the same cut, without giving up the silhouette you are looking for. YMMV🍻

I would search 555's as they are the "hens teeth" for me. They have roomier top block and higher rise than 666, one needs just to be very careful with thigh measurements. I almost screwed up totally when buying the 19L denim in 33 as all others I have are 34's, They are quite lower rise than others I have (+ thighter in thigh), 18 vintage new and old fabric, 14ozers and 555N. The 18oz 555s are loosest ones and I think they might do the trick for you if thigh measurements are OK (about 19L fabric, It suprised me... didn't read the description carefully enough) Just my 2 pennies...
