I was just inspecting the details on these jeans and needless to say, they are pretty cool. The stitching is way thicker that the other pairs of IH's that I have. Does anyone know if there is a reason that they don't show the selvedge seam on the inside seam? Maybe they made these out of left over material?

which i bought before, than they came out with the 666s that are selvedge through & through & are pretty slim.

301s are really loved in some circles. wonder if the 666s are seen as the heir or just another slim cut?

The 301S was originally conceived as a non selvedge jean. The same silhouette could be achieved to show the selvedge line, but it would be a radical redesign. I originally thought it was due to the taper, but learnt otherswise when I was designing the Devils's Fit with Tom and Haraki….

Because Haraki said it would be. That's all I need to know.
It is possible to get a selvedge line on a tapered jean, but the fundamental design needs to be changed.

I don't even own the 301
but if my logic is wrong that bothers me, so I gotta know…yes you can make a taper jean showing selvage
and you could "achieve the same silhouette" with a redesign of the 301 cut
but is it correct that you could not make the 301 as it is now showing selvage? -
I answered because it is a moot point.
The 301S does not have selvedge, it was designed that way, partly because when it was originally conceived by Tom and Haraki it was destined to be sold to the Haraki's domestic customers (who on the whole are bikers and don't give a jot about selvedge, preferring cut and construction to be their driver), Haraki decided not to release it in Japan and Kiya decided to take the jean. I gave him exclusivity to the cut, because (and this is an example of where I sometimes allow my own preferences to dictate a rational business decision) I personally do not like the cut. It will require a change to the whole pattern to get a selvedge line down the seam. There would be no change to the silhouette if we did do this. Personally, I prefer Haraki to work on new stuff, rather than spend time redesigning something that a lot of people already like and buy, just to show a bit of selvedge.
So it won't happen.

G there was no point. it was just one of those how you say, hypotheticals for the sake of banter. you are again correct, why mess with a good thing when people love the cut of the 301s.
