Deep East Oakland (70's, 80's, 90's, 100's)
These 4 sets are also part of East Oakland's notoriously violent heart. Intersected by the major arteries of 73rd/Hegenberger, Macarthur, San Leandro St., and International, this, as well as the 60's, is in the heart of Oakland's drug trade. Although heavily patrolled by the Oakland Police, little has been done to stop the violence in these neighborhoods. Eastmont mall can be found here. 73rd and 98th are the main routes to the Oakland airport and Oakland's stadium. In the lower portions of all of these neighborhoods are industrial industries, but the majority of land in this area is residential.
It is up and coming, though, as has been evidenced by the recent housing market, which although it has dipped slightly, continues to go up in price. The neighborhoods are gaining a more family-safe feel and the trees along the creek are lovely. Oakland remains a town of interest and charisma. However, it should be noted that in 2006 Oakland suffered a 50% raise in homicides to the highest since 1992. Although identified by the Oakland Police as "the killing zone", these areas are not as dangerous as would otherwise be thought. Most of the violence is directed to and from drug dealers, and not at normal residents. Many areas, such as 105th street have become much less dangerous in recent years and now certainly does have a family feel.

I live in Fresno, CA where I was raised. I like it, but the Superblacks will be out of the rotation, come summer.
I was an Oakland resident for about 6 years and if you visited the Top Dog on 13th in downtown Oakland between 2004-2006, it's likely I served your food. I hella (obligatory) miss (some things about) Oakland. I've been to lots of places and I still consider it the most interesting city of those I've stayed.

fob, California has it all, you should visit! Clovis, which borders Fresno to the east, is known as the 'gateway to the Sierras.' I still gotta climb McKinley some time soon. Next time I'm down that way, I'll take some pictures of the desert in Trona, CA. I wonder how bromide salts would fade denim.

Here are some pics of Lake Merritt, Oakland's crown jewel. I'm stomping around there almost every weekend….I can actually walk there from my residence. Oakland dumps a ton of dollars into up-keeping this park...and the results are spectacular, for, as you can see -- it's truly beautiful. "The Lake" is crowded during the mornings, evenings and weekends...when it's not raining, everyone congregates at Lake Merritt. Many runners, skateboarders, dog-walkers -- you name it -- choose this Lake as their route. Walking The Lake with Lacy during summer nights is one of my favorite activities in the world...even when dark, it's crowded as hell with folks taking an after-dinner stroll. I beam with Oakland pride...I absolutely love this city.
