@Appfaff these are some of the brands that I like.

      • Eyevan 7285 - retro styles from Japan

      • Kuboraum - German brand, more cutting edge / quirky

      • Theo - eccentric Belgian eyewear

      • Gold and Wood - wood and metal frames from Luxembourg

      • Thom Browne - more preppy American styles

I'm currently wearing a pair of Kuboraums. A local optician is clearing out their stock of Gold and Wood, and I might get a pair in the new year.

Dita, Mykita, and Anne et Valentin, mentioned above, are good.

The thing to do is hit up a few opticians, and see what sits best on your face. It can be a slow, frustrating process. But remember, life is too short to wear boring spectacles. 😛

@Appfaff you should check out Cutler and Gross.  I've worn one frame or another of theirs for probably the last 6-8 years.  They're pretty good about carrying a few styles in larger sizes.  My grey pair are 1214's and they're sized 53-19-145.  I've also got a number of Dita frames which have a few nice pairs in larger sizes as well.  The Grand Reserve 2's are really nice and fit well.  If I remember correctly, they make most or all Thom Browne frames.  I've seen quite a few pairs I like but most seem to be on the smaller side.

awesome @Clint_D - I really appreciate all the recommendations. In all honesty, It will probably come down to what my ophthalmologist is able to get into his shop at a discount. I'll be sure to find some frames I like and bring the to him and see what they can do.

I just buy frames and take them to my optician.  Most of my glasses I now buy in Japan, and when he see's them he just marvels at their constructional beauty…..

@JDelage Eyevan 7285 make a collapsible frame, the model 800. However, they're pretty small so they might not fit.

Lunor do some compact frames, which have telescopic temples. A few are folding too. This is the Lunor XXV Model 2502.

@louisbosco I might have seen the Hakusan name in Henderson's Optical in Melbourne, but could be getting mixed up with another Japanese brand. I'll take a look next time I'm in town.

Ok, are DITA really worth their price?

I love their frames, and found out the only retailer (their claim, im too lazy to look it up) in the state in 6 minutes away from me - but do my eyes deserve $800+ worth of eyewear?

I love my Tom Ford frames (even more so since my optical place had them heavily discounted), so wondering if the DITA are THAT much better.

To be fair, that’s with lenses… but they claim 450-625 on most frames alone and 225 for lenses.

I should clarify that this is at “the” upscale eyewear place in town.. so they may be gouging a bit

I do think its an interesting conversation overall of what is the price ceiling for improving the quality of an item. And sometimes its hard to say.

What makes a $625 frame more quality than something in the $300-$400 range….I think with some of these frames, as you mentioned, it is the idea of a "premium" item or "chic-ness" if you will that accounts for the cost.

Fairly similar to what Luxoittca has done with Ray Bay...although I do love me some Ray Ban
