Getting olive oil out of denim?

Spilled some olive oil down one leg of my 21’s while cooking. Any good way to remove that doesn’t involve hot water and dish soap?

Yes. Put cornstarch on it and gently tamp it down. Leave it there for a few hours then repeat this. The more you repeat the more oil will be drawn out of the denim. Put some detergent in the area and rub it in then wash. It may take a few treatments but eventually it will pull it all out. I do this all the time for all my oil based stains. Works every time.

Remember to shake out the excess starch before washing though. I hold it over the bathtub and slap the opposite side to knock it all out.

I had to do this on my new brown GAH shirt after only one wear recently. Worked like a charm.

@Matt Thanks…I’ve never heard of this technique and will give it a go. I’ve always used dawn dish soap but it required some hot water to make it work. Glad to find a tried and true alternative

That’s it! Don’t panic if the first wash doesn’t get it out. I’ve had this method work even after the garment has been through the dryer.

Just an update that one treatment with the corn starch was all it took to get the oil out. Worked like a charm.

There’s a guy on IG whose entire account is based on deliberately doing what I believe you are alluding to. He doesn’t use the corn starch
