Thanks guys. I thought the mosque was very psychedelic and peaceful inside. You have to take your shoes off and wash your feet before you go in. The carpet is very soft.

No prizes, just a bit of fun and a kick to those (me) who want to do more photography in their personal lives.

@Sam I would try (but my skills suck).  I’ve been playing around for years with no true training and I’m still at a point where I take multiple pictures to get one good one.  Sometimes it’s disheartening to see someone with natural skills and an eye, pick up the camera that you have been using for years and take great photos you didn’t think were possible.

I enjoy it and would like to see this happen.  Could you request that contributions also include a little about their camera/rig, and if natural lighting was used, lenses, etc.?

BTW have you heard of a YouTuber called Jamie Windsor? He made some film presets for lightroom that emulates that film you were talking about. Might be worth checking out if you're interested.

Do you think a month is too long to wait for entries? I don't want people to stress about it. @Jett129

@goosehd All skill levels welcome! You shouldn't worry that you take lots to get the result you want. I think that's a very valid way of shooting and a great way to learn. In film terms, I've heard it said that out of a roll of 36 shots you'd be lucky to get 3 good ones.

I think it would be a great idea to get some background info on camera, settings and lighting alongside the images.

With digital cameras I’ve been able to trial and error more than I ever could with film.  Film costs were prohibitive for me taking random shots, especially when so many turned out poorly.

I have a Canon EOS 5D and an assortment of lenses that is a joy to use but size and weight can sometimes be an issue.  I recently picked up a Leica Q that is a fantastic camera.  It’s small enough to carry and take impromptu shots.  Some of the images I enjoy the most are off the cuff, but I need 10 or more images to get the one I really want.

The Leica makes me think more because of the fixed lense and I have to try to be in the right spot.  It has impressed me with it’s ability to capture shots that I thought were going to be bad, but turned out great.

I don’t do much editing of images and have only started down that path.  Who knows where this will all end up.

@goosehd I'm bringing out the cliches but "limitations breeds creativity" This year I've really taken to using fixed-length lenses on my shoots with IH. Lately, I've been using the 24mm and it's got me results I definitely wouldn't have achieved with the 28-300mm that I've been using before. I find it makes me move myself more to get the right framing I want… once again with the quotes, "If your photos are good enough, you're not getting close enough" Robert Capa.

@motojobobo Maybe we can all take turns in suggesting a theme or subject matter which will help gets us out of our comfort zones. What sort of things do you like to shoot normally?

@Jett129 You're Iron Heart through and through 🙂 Cool, I think a month is good. Gives people time to get round to shooting and reshooting if needed but also editing. I find I've become lazy at editing my own images because I spend most of my working life editing. I've got a tonne of images I've taken over the summer that are just sat on memory cards.

I'll start to write up some guidelines for this idea asap and hopefully more people will get on board.

Last thought, do we exclude phone photography? I'm thinking yes but I do realise it's a more valid art form these days.

no i haven't. i tend not to use presets when dealing in lightroom. it's just an outright lazy method. understandable when you have bulk work to do, but i still prefer to tweak individually. which films was i talk about anyway? i've recently love the reincarnation of the ektachrome which i've been using very carefully.

definitely keen to see what the topics are/ will be. i tend to shoot more on holiday overseas than when at home. really keen to take the sigma 50mm art out around tokyo.. that's majority of what my style is..

Just the sheer enjoyment of being made to get off your butt and take some photos!

However, there’s no pressure to enter. We’ve all agreed that a month is long enough for people to take and edit their photo but I realise that people have jobs, families and other aspects of their lives that will get in the way. So, if only a few of you get round to entering I won’t be offended. I’d like to just get myself out taking photos for pleasure and if I can drag some of you with me then that’s a result.

                                          Themes

I’m just going to list a few basic ideas here and hope that some of you will pitch in with your own ideas. It can be as broad as landscapes or as niche as Lego and If you feel like a theme needs a bit more context, just ask.

                                          Portrait – Landscape – Wildlife – Night – Sport – Abstract – Hometown – Social – Street/Candid – Macro – Still Life – Architectural – Minimalist

                                          Rules

                                          There are no Rules!

Well, maybe try to keep it to new work, since that’s the point of this whole thing. Although, if you’ve got old shots you haven’t edited yet that you think will work then that should be allowed (thoughts?) Oh, and no Smartphone photos!

                                          Winners!
I don’t know if any of the guys here (IH) look at this thread. So, my thought was to print off the entered photos and show them to the boys and Paula, without names attached, and see what the consensus is. I’m open to others opinions on this but I thought it was probably the simplest way of deciding the winner. I don’t think this is overly important though. I’m just looking forward to getting out there, taking photos and seeing what you guys come up with too.

also, i've started to add watermarks to photos now, so i'm not sure how that'll go without names attached..
